2019 Son is playing with summer travel team (18U) for the first time.  This team plays in a few local/regional PG events in June and July before their grande finale at Sandlott Wood World Championship in Nashville.  I'm wondering whether there will be many college recruiters in attendance and if so, are they mostly local, regional or otherwise.   Thanks for any advice offered.

My suggestion would be for your son to contact any area/local colleges he may be interested in to let them know he will be playing at that tournament.  Then update the coaches closer to the event of game times, fields, etc.

According to the PG website, there are some pretty big tournaments going on during that same time frame to vie for college coaches time and recruiting dollars:  16U WWBA in Emerson, GA and 17U in Ft. Myers.

Enjoy Nashville!  Great town, music, and BBQ!

Mine played in this tournament at 15U, and while fun, it didn't seem to be well-organized enough to draw tons of college interest (at least not from much farther away than TN).  My frame of reference for college interest is Lakepoint/PG and ECB, though, since we're in the Atlanta burbs, so maybe take that with a grain of salt, though.

Other than getting his first W on the mound in front of his grandfather, the highlight of the trip for us was Hattie Bs hot chicken.  If you're in Nashville, make sure you hit one (or more) of the multitude of hot chicken places if you're any fan at all of spicy food.

If this is truly an 18u only tournament, probably not a lot of coaches. When son was 17u and played in either 17u or 17/18u tournament there were coaches around, but when he was 18U and only played in 18u tournaments it was a ghost town but truthfully on his 18U team was all summer after HS graduation and had their college plans in place, whether it was baseball or not

My son played in this tournament. He had some College coaches come to watch him , but only because he let them know he was attending. And they did not come from very far, The furthest was a couple hours away. Same for one of his teammates, Coach came out, but it was specifically to see him.  The school was only a short way away from the tournament.

So I would not expect to be found at this tournament. However the talent was pretty good. It was our last tournament for the summer.

One Caveat this was over 6 years ago.

Went to the 14u & 15u tournaments in the past and had an absolute blast each time.  Saw older age groups playing and only saw parents at those games.  Stay downtown if you can.  If you find your way over near the Vandy campus, stop by San Antonio Taco Company and enjoy an afternoon on the deck.  That was a hot spot when I was an undergrad there many moons ago, and it's still a cool spot.

And add a trip to Hattie B's on your list of "must dine" spots.  Some of the best Nashville Hot Fried Chicken you'll ever have.

Having lived in the Nash for 25 years and having 4 sons that play travel baseball here is the skinny on this tourney...  first of all why is a 2019 playing on an 18u team... ?

IF you have a strong interest to attend / play or have received strong  interest from the following schools then this tourney may benefit you.

Belmont University, Tennessee Tech, Middle Tennessee State, Memphis, Western Kentucky, Austin Peay,  any Juco in Tennessee,  NAIA schools   in and around Nashville.   you will see RC at the 16 and 17 age not much at the 18 age.... recruiting is about over for them .

That's about it for the recruiting in this tourney.  The talent is always pretty good, but for the money I would take the team to another PG event , unless it's a case of the above .

As far as the hot chicken, Hattie B's is good... Prince's chicken is the real deal.  Downtown is always a blast , you can find free entertainment usually by the river and there's a new amphitheater downtown as well as the new Triple AAA baseball field.
