Can anyone here pass along any info on Santa Fe College "JUCO" in Gainesville, Florida. They are showing a strong interest and if Son goes the JUCO route, they are on the top of his JUCO list. From what I hear they have a good Baseball Program and did very well last season.

My son did the University of Florida Camp (By far the best Camp he has been to) in July and a Santa Fe Coach was there for the whole camp and they liked what the saw.

Head Coach O'Sullivan and Asst Coach Weitzel from Florida both liked him also. The only knock that they had was that he needs to hit the weight room (he's 6'2", 175lb) and refine his defense. They both made positive comments to my son on his hitting ability and that normally a kid from NJ would have to do a lot to impress them and He Did. They both also commented to him that they loved his work ethic and they both suggested that he consider the JUCO route because they felt he could play for them in 2 years. (We know there are no guarantees).

My son has had pretty good interest from Mid Level D1's and a few Upper D1's, but he is leaning towards this JUCO for numerous reasons.

1) They offer both of his potential majors in a A.A. Degree that is fully transferable to all 4 year Florida "State Colleges"

2) They play a 24-25 game Fall schedule and a full spring schedule. (so the big fall schedule should help him work on his "D" and refine his hitting).

3) With all the potential games over a 2 year period, plus some hard work in the Class Room, Gym, Batting Cage and on his Defense it gives him a chance to transfer and play at a Major D1. (His comment to me was that he may not be 100% ready for a Major D1 now, but he doesn't want to settle for less, when with a lot of hard work over the next 2 years, he gives himself a good chance to still play for a top D1 even if only for 2 years. He said he doesn't want to be mad at himself 10 years from now that he didn't "Go for It").

So any info on Santa Fe that anyone could offer would be great.

Santa Fe finished second at the JUCO world series last year - they have a good program. It is a compliment to your son that he is being recruited by them!

Academically, they have really expanded their options and have a good relationship with UF. They seem to make a concerted effort to have easily transferable programs, plus professional and certificate programs.

The facilities are good, but not spectacular. 2B's travel team practices there a lot, and the field itself is nice.

Besides that, Gainesville is a very nice place to live. Smile
