Bears 21, Colts 10. Bears defense plays havoc with Manning all afternoon. BTW, my kids were arguing that 06 Bears defense is stronger than it was in 85. I responded by making them watch a video highlight reel from 85 season. After watching Dent, Marshall, McMichael, Fencik and Singletary KILL apponents for 1 1/2 hour, they gave in, and walked away shaking their heads. GO BEARS!
Rosy, I can only hope you see into the future....as I have those numbers in my pool and if that was the final, I would be VERY happy...VERY happy. How's Jordan doing btw? what school is he going to? i think i saw it somewhere on here a while back...east coast somewhere...well good luck to him wherever it may be...Have a great season and most of all tell him to enjoy Senior season, it is his last high school season....seems like Danny was just a freshmen...ooooppps he is just a freshmen...in college. I never thought that when we were 9 and playing on Gravel that I would be saying my boy will be playing college baseball...I miss those days. I am however looking forward to traveling around the country and watching them play...very soon..2 weeks from friday, Texas
Well, Soxnole, Beenthere and others. You were certainly right about the game. The Bears were beaten like a drum on both sides of the ball. How Indy turned that defense around just in time for the playoffs is some of the best end of season coaching ever! Kudos to Peyton Manning also. Now, he's one more great player that the media can finally lay off of.

What a pathetic head coach!

Spends millions to get a backup qb who makes more than the starter, by millions; and, in the biggest season and game of your life, you NEVER MAKE A MOVE!

Everyone in the world knew that...in the words of Grossman in his radio interview...that he "sucked"...everyone, that is, except the HEAD COACH. Of course, Turner, the offensive coordinator, who never won a thing while with the Bears and then with Illinois and now back with the Bears...is about as imaginative as a pet rock offensively. Whatever happened to draw plays and screens?

There were too many games for the Bears this year where they were simply lucky...in games where Hester was fantistic.

No front 4 doing anything. The defensive coordinator didn't recognize that blitzing worked...even the tv commentator, Simms commented about that.

Forget about next year, folks. One year and out for this "group".

10-6 regular season and then 1 and out in the playoffs in 2007.
You guys are tough!

Back before the season, if someone told you that this coach would have the Bears in the Super Bowl this year, would you have wanted to fire him after the Super Bowl?

He could only have done one game better. The Colts are the only NFL team that had a coach who did better! And the Colts have been one of the favorites each of the past several years.
PG...Only reciting the obvious.

If management doesn't see what we see, it's their fault.

We're not in the pro football business. We are just fans...but some things are/should be OBVIOUS to everyone.

Luck has so much to do with the Bears going as far as they did. Head coach had nothing to do with it.

Why did they get Griese? To sit on the bench?

Grossman doesn't learn a thing from game to game. Throws off balance most of the time (running to his left and throwing against his body). Turner is atrocious. He was terrible at Illinois, too. I don't know who the quarterbacks coach is for the Bears, but he should be the first one fired. Obviously, he has no "clout" with the head coach. I don't think Lovie has much "clout" with the management, either. Looks like they tell him who to play.

Whatever happened to the blitzing linebackers?

I'll be happy to see him/them (Lovie and Ron Turner) go. Hope he goes to the Cowboys.
Lovie Smith is one of the top coaches in the league. Those of you who are so eager to get rid of him need to give me some names of guys who would do a better job. The idea of firing him after a season like this is ridiculous. Fans like that give the more intelligent Bear fans a bad name. I don't know if Grossman is the long-term answer at QB, but he is definitely the best on the roster at the moment.
Whoosh, it was a fun year, lots of great moments.

This moment was one of the most frustrating moments. Everything came together in the form of exactly what was mentioned before in this thread. Unimaginative offense and a quarterback who looked pretty much like how I would look if I was out on that field...scared to death and clueless.

We went for almost a half an hour, clock time, without a first down? 3 and outs like we didn't want to be there. I did see one thing that surprised me...Grossman left the pocket and rolled out..scared the living **** out of me. Possession times in the first three quarters were outrageous. A friend of mine tried to tell me that it was the Colts defense that kept the Bears defense ON the field. Is the Bear's offense in this game a worthy test of a Colts D? I sure don't think so. I've been wondering about this offensive concept for the entire year.

You just can't keep putting entire games on a defense's shoulders and expect to keep winning. I thought the Bears D did an admirable job tonight. They kept the Bears close, forced the colts to settle for three field goals when they were threatening, etc. Those guys had to be gasping for air during that stretch of no first downs, brutal.

If you looked at Grossman's feet all night you could tell that we didn't stand a chance. He really did look like an amateur out there.

No sour grapes here..I enjoyed watching the Bears all year...It's fun to see a guy like Grossman achieve beyond his athletic level. We won a lot of games with him in there. I do question the Bears' lack of spine in not giving the bench guy a shot at some point..at least to keep Grossman moving forward, a motivational point of sorts.

Yeah, draw plays, screens, that's meat and potato stuff and where is it?...Saw many plays during the year where Grossman forced a pass when he could have ran and slid for important yards..non existant. I don't understand it. The Bears this year might be the perfect example of a sports paradox.

Where would you find such "intelligent" Bear fans?
Certainly not in the cheap seats. Maybe in the sky boxes where they really don't care about the game anyway!

Greise is the best quarterback on the roster.

In a pros game, you need a pro at quarterback, not a rookie practicing.

10-6 for the Bears next year and 1 and out in the playoffs.
Bottom line “bad Rex” showed up for the game… simple as that. The defense played well enough to win… except for the blown coverage that resulted in a Colt TD. You can’t expect to win against Manning with “bad Rex”. We needed “good Rex” to even have a chance. Sorry for the clique but Grossman reminded me of a deer in head lights… we have seen it all year long… Not ready to throw Lovie under the bus just yet… Lovie and his staff did get us there… it sure wasn’t Rex…

Hats off to MVP Manning and the Colts…

Just another Monday Morning QB… It’s still stinks…

And for those old enough to remember…. uuuuaaaahhhhhh the memories…..

Chorus
We are the Bears Shufflin' Crew
Shufflin' on down, doin' it for you.
We're so bad we know we're good.
Blowin' your mind like we knew we would.
You know we're just struttin' for fun
Struttin' our stuff for everyone.
We're not here to start no trouble.
We're just here to do the Super Bowl Shuffle.

Walter Payton
Well, they call me Sweetness,
And I like to dance.
Runnin' the ball is like makin' romance.
We've had the goal since training camp
To give Chicago a Super Bowl chance.
And we're not doin' this
Because we're greedy.
The Bears are doin' it to feed the needy.
We didn't come here to look for trouble,
We just came here to do
The Super Bowl Shuffle.

Willie Gault
This is Speedy Willie, and I'm world class.
I like runnin' but i love to get the pass.
I practice all day and dance all night,
I got to get ready for the Sunday fight.
Now I'm as smooth as a chocolate swirl,
I dance a little funky, so watch me girl.
There's not one here that does it like me,
My Super Bowl Shuffle will set you free.

Mike Singletary
I'm Samurai Mike I stop'em cold.
Part of the defense, big and bold,
I've been jammin' for quite a while,
Doin' what's right and settin' the style,
Give me a chance, I'll rock you good,
Nobody messin' in my neighborhood.
I didn't come here lookin' for trouble,
I just came to do The Super Bowl Shuffle

Blowin' your mind like we knew we would.
You know we're just struttin' for fun
Struttin' our stuff for everyone.
We're not here to start no trouble.
We're just here to do the Super Bowl Shuffle.

Jim McMahon
I'm the punky QB, known as McMahon.
When I hit the turf, I've got no plan.
I just throw my body all over the field.
I can't dance, but I can throw the pill.
I motivate the cats, I like to tease.
I play so cool, I aim to please.
That's why you all got here on the double
To catch me doin' the Super Bowl Shuffle.

Otis Wilson
I'm mama's boy Otis, one of a kind.
The ladies all love me
For my body and my mind.
I'm slick on the floor as I can be
But ain't no sucker gonna get past me.
Some guys are jealous
Of my style and class,
That's why some end up on their -,
I didn't come here lookin' for trouble,
I just get down to The Super Bowl Shuffle.

Steve Fuller
They say Jimbo is our man.
If Jimmy can't do it, I sure can.
This is Steve, and it's no wonder
I run like lightnin', pass like thunder.
So bring on Atlanta, bring on Dallas,
This is for Mike and Papa Bear Halas.
I'm not here to feather his ruffle,
I just came here to do
The Super Bowl Shuffle.

Mike Richardson
I'm L.A. Mike, and I play it cool.
They don't sneak by me 'cause I'm no fool.
I fly on the field and get on down.
Everybody knows I don't mess around.

Any time of day.
I like to steal it and make 'em pay,
So please don't cry to beat my hustle
'Cause I'm just here to do
The Super Bowl Shuffle.

Struttin' our stuff for everyone.
We're not here to start no trouble.
We're just here to do the Super Bowl Shuffle.

Richard Dent
The sackman's comin', I'm your man Dent.
if the quarterback's slow,
He's gonna get bent.
We stop the run, we stop the pass,
I like to dump guys on their -.
We love to play for the world's best fans,
You better start makin'
Your Super Bowl plans.
But don't get ready or go to any trouble
Unless you practice
The Super Bowl Shuffle.

Gary Fencik
It's Gary here, and I'm Mr.Clean.
They call me "hit man,"
Don't know what they mean.
They throw it long and watch me run,
I'm on my man, one-on-one.
Buddy's guys cover it down to the bone,
That's why they call us the 46 zone.
Come on everybody let's scream and yell,
We're goin' to do the Shuffle,
Then ring your bell.

William Perry
You're lookin' at the Fridge,
I'm the rookie.
I may be large, but I'm no dumb cookie.
You've seen me hit, you've seen me run,
When I get the pass, we'll have more fun.
I can dance, you will see
The others, they all learn from me.
I don't come here lookin' for trouble,
I just came here to do
The Super Bowl Shuffle.

(Repeat Chorus)
We are the Bears Shufflin' Crew
Shufflin' on down, doin' it for you.
We're so bad we know we're good.
Blowin' your mind like we knew we would.
You know we're just struttin' for fun
Struttin' our stuff for everyone.
We're not here to start no trouble.
We're just here to do the Super Bowl Shuffle

The Superbowl Shuffle – 1985
Smokey, that blown coverage really hurt as it was on a 3rd and 8 play with Peyton about to be sacked. Instead of 7-0 we were 7-6. I also thought the defense took too long to adjust to stopping those 5-8 yard pass plays, too worried about the long pass that would have been tough to throw on a cold wet night. Punt and kick-off coverage was not that good as the colts did seem to have good field position, all though some due to the turnovers. I think the Bears missed Benson as he went out early with the knee injury, thought they might have rotated in Peterson but then again they didn't have the ball for many plays. There was also a couple of big holding penalties 2 I think on 1st down conversions. Funny thing is that with all that they were still within 2 Robbie Gould field goals in the 4th quarter till that interception run back for 6. I still think that blown coverage was a huge play even though it was early the bears could have been up 14-0 in the first half and maybe that would have helped the offense and their game plan. Hard for me to put the entire balme on Rex as seems to be how many people look at it, just looks like the best team won.

The Bears defense was far from good enough. Grossman and Lovie Smith will take alot of the criticism and rightfully so but what about Rivera? What kind of game plan did he put together? If Dallas wants this overrated defensive coordinator as their Head Coach that's fine with me. How many times did the Bears blitz? Championship teams have championship coaches that make adjustments. The Colts owned the ball and the time of possession. P.S. I thought Tank Johnson was cleared to play in the game? Where was he and the rest of the front four? So when they disappeared, like I said where was the blitz? Still with all of this it was a game that could've been won. The X factor was Hester and overall field position and we had that but that's all we won. In the second half the Bears defense gave the Colts 6 points and Grossman gave them 7 points.
What's disappointing to me about this team is that everyone knew in the middle of the season that Rex was very inconsistent at best. They had a huge lead in the division and had plenty of opportunity to play Griese a quarter or so a game to see if he had anything in case of another bad Rex game in the playoffs. This could have been accomplished while letting everyone know that Rex is still the starter. They didn't do that of course so when Rex has another bad game and we have no back up plan. As a result it might be another 21 years before another chance is made available. Too important a position to take that kind of gamble.
