The Savannah College of Art and Design secured a prize in the recruiting of a RH pitcher/honor student in Effingham County, GA. Ryan Frederick is going to study Architecture and Historic Preservation at this most prestigious institution. He brings with him a 90+ fastball and a strong work ethic in the classroom and on the field. Good luck to him and congratulations to the Bees and his family.

I know the coach at SCAD personally. He is an outstanding person. Still holds some kind of hitting record at Ohio St. decades later. They have some amzing stories that come out of this school. Like the RHP they recruited from Tampa who couldn't find a school to go to. He was a 6'3" senior throwing only 84. According to their ex-pitching coach, "had the right kind of body to throw hard one day". Three years later he is throwing 94 and gets select in the 3rd round by the Yankees; Ryan Pope. He made the 40 man roster last year but arm soreness sent him back to AAA.
Coach Wollenburg is a great guy and a great coach. The pitching coach, Brett Lewis is also very knowledgeable in his craft and they both do a great job making the most out of what they can get. SCAD is a very specialized institutuion that has always been able to be competitive on the field in many of their sports. But, unfortunately they have decided to cut baseball for next year. In order to free up funding for the general scholarship fund for non-athletes, they announced today that baseball, softball, and volleyball is in their last year. That means there will be some kids looking to transfer to another institution to continue their playing career. It is unfortunate news for those affected and a sad day for the families involved.
Yes. It is gone. There is another thread discussing this. They have eliminated baseball and softball along with basketball a few years back to concentrate on "life style" sports. That was the term used in the press release. Life style meaning (I guess), equestrian, golf and tennis. Anyway, many kids are finding other places to playsome not. The school is honoring their scholarship monies for a period of time though. So, that was pretty decent of them.
