My Mom who is elderly, sits a few nights a week with an even more elderly woman. I got a call from a Louisiana State Trooper at 5:45 this morning asking if I knew where my Mom was. He explained that an abandoned car had been found at the home of an elderly woman who lives on Guidry Road and he was told that my Mom spent the night there and left at 5:00 this morning. Well, I am freaking out wondering why he is asking me this, I asked what was going on and he repeated the abandoned car thing. I told him I wanted to know what was going on now, and he finally explained that someone had shot a state trooper on I-10 and they found his car abandoned in front of the elderly ladies home at 5:15 and they wanted to be sure my Mom was safe and that the shooter did not leave in my Mom’s car or harm my Mom. He wanted to know the make and Model of my Mom’s car, I am of course panicking big by now. My husband gets out of bed, wants to know what is going on and I tell him and he says “you know your Mom goes to mass every morning”. I was panicking so bad I forgot about my Mom going to mass every morning. I tell the officer I believe she is at church and that I would meet him there. I was never so relieved to see my Mom kneeling in church praying. My Mom went pale when she saw me waiting for her outside of the church because she knew something was wrong. I explained what happened and we went to the side parking lot so the officer could question her. After all of this was over, I cried for at least 30 minutes. My Mom could have met up with this monster and she probably missed him by only 5 or 10 minutes. God was watching over my Mom this morning. I am sure her decades of going to mass every morning and her saying thousands of rosaries in her 74 years of life had something to do with it. I grew up down this quiet wonderful street and 90 percent of the people there are my Aunts, Uncles, and relatives. Thankfully everyone is ok and also we thank God the State Trooper’s wounds are not life threatening and he should be fine. The monster is still out there somewhere in the area, hopefully they will find him soon. Thanks for listening, I hope it was ok to post this here. I feel better when I put my thoughts on paper and share my feelings.

Your family is blessed to have such a strong matriarch of faith as a role model.

I'm thankful for all of you that things turned out positive.

This week, in the school district I work, a man choked his wife to death with a shoe-string. She was a counselor's aide at one of the high schools. I feel so sorry for their children. This was a supposedly upstanding family, from a wealthy neighborhood. You just never know.
louisiana ...

What better place to come and share your fears and concerns than the sisterhood of the baseball?

Can't even imagine how frightened you must have been ... there are so many whackos and so much evil out there that it is blessing just to feel safe everyday. I too believe your mom's close relationship with the Lord has a lot to do with her protection from this evil monster and share in your thanks to God for protecting her.

As our parents age, we have more to worry about ... feeling as tho we have more children to fret over etc. Our parents are 89, 85, and 81 and live relatively close by (30 miles) but it can take forever to get to them on the freeway that links us. We are thankful for everyday that they are safe from harm.

Hopefully you are feeling relieved now and enjoying a very large cup of coffee/tea/vino with your mom right now. Glad to hear the trooper will survive.
Louisiana9,...I too am glad you came here to share.
Not always sure why things happen,...but so glad your mom was safe and sound in her church. Geesh,..that's a definate double fisted multi coffee mornin'!
I hope this guy gets caught quick. My prayers to the state trooper also. ( my oldest son is a military police officer and things like that always seem to hit close to home and give me chills behind my neck. )

I think you could definately use a few hugzzzz today!!!

Keep us updtated when they catch this guy!

About 18 months ago at about midnight, we got a call kind of like that from my sister....

Get over to mother's house. A man broke into the house. She shot him!!

My husband and I raced across town calling my brother who lives the closest to my mom. By the time we got there, the police had the street blocked off cause the guy was still on the loose.

What happened, my niece, who lives there kept hearing noises and my mom had gotten up to put one of the dogs out. She had her handgun (she is licensed to carry) in her hand because although she lives in the city, she backs up to a creek with a wooded area and a hungry coyote (that she feeds sometimes) is in the area but she doesn't want it to hurt her dogs.
I'll skip a lot of the details, but several things occurred that prompted them to search the house. As they opened a closet door, this guy jumps out at them. My mom yelled at him to get down, but he wouldn't so she had no choice but to shoot.
They did catch the guy, he's in jail now and she is the first to tell you that you need to learn to protect yourself.
As I said, she is licensed and trained so the gun is in good hands...and saved her and my niece.

I'm very glad your mom and the officer are all right and hope they catch the bad act-er soon!!
louisiana ...

Great news that the monster man was caught.. I wish these cons that are still in prison had the same code of honor with regards to someone who threatens older people as they do for those beasts we know as child molesters and abusers.

bluesky ...

I got kick out of your story and am glad your mom was able to take care of business. Unfortunately, this is all I see when I close my eyes to visualize it: "Get outta my house, Stranger !!!"
