Is an athletic scholarship like an academic scholarship. With an academic scholarship you need to maintain a certain GPA. What about an athletic scholarship? Does that have to be renewed every year? and can it be taken away?

thank you. Thats what I thought but taken away based on what?
Academic scholarships are usually for 4 years, but can be taken away based on academic progress and GPA.
Athletic scholarships are year to year, but most schools will not take away based on performance but will based on not being a good citizen at the school.
Some schools will take away or increase based on performance or even takes money away from some players to balance the "budget". There may be some coaches that will take money away from players after the junior year based on expecting the player to be drafted or even knowing that the player has no other options.
You do need to ask and possibly get in writing what the coach’s style is and ask around what the individual coaching staff tends to do.
