Div1 football gets , 60, 80? I am hoping someday the NCAA could give baseball another one or two, maybe? Mad
Scholarships are not spread evenly in every sport.

Football means millions in revenue to some schools and the NCAA.

Now you might understand why getting a piece of the 11.7 is not easy.
Every sport is allowed a different number; so, the 11.7 applies to baseball only. The reason it is an odd number is that, a number of years ago, the NCAA reduced all "non-revenue" sports' scholarship number by 10%. Hence, the old number, 13, was reduced by 1.3; which yields 11.7.

Football is accorded 85 grants-in-aid, all of which are given as full scholarships.

Keep in mind that a school's ability to award 11.7 baseball scholarships is also dependent upon it having sufficient funds to do so. A number of Division I programs provide fewer than 11.7 for that reason. Also, bear in mind that fully-funded Division II programs may offer no more than 9 baseball scholarships.
I keep hoping that someone has seen information on the NCAA meetings that I think were held in November. I saw in Baseball America that two proposals that were to be presented on changing the number of scholarships allowed for baseball.

The first was to up the number to 14.

The second was to up it to 28, but to only pay for tuition, nothing else. They are hoping that 28, tuition only, will help schools compete with state run scholarship programs (such as Georgia's Hope Scholarship).
