I've been a watcher on this site for a couple of years now and this is my first post - take it easy on me. I've accepted the job of scorekeeper and statistician for my sons high school team and came across a situation I couldn't figure out over the weekend. Runner on first, batter hits a hard grounder between 1st and 2nd, runner makes contact with the ball and is called out for interference, batter is safe on first. How is this scored for the batter? The ball was hit to an area that was not going to fielded without extra human effort. I scored it similar to a FC and did not give a hit. Thoughts?

A put-out is given to the fielder closest to the play...sounds like 4 gets it

And the batter actually gets credited for a hit.

Dems the rules Smile

However, if runner had interfered with the fielder in the act making a play, the hit is not automatic and is up to the scorekeeper to decide if out could have been made with "ordinary effort"
