My son is playing for eastern D1 baseball program and the coaches have scheduled "scout day". My son is a freshman on scholarship and is trying to find out more info on this. Has anybody on the board had expierience with this?
airmail, Scout day is a day that most schools hold and they invite various scouts. The number invited and attendance depend on the school and the players that play for that program. Also the way the day is run varies somewhat by program, but may include a pro style work out and then scrimmages/intrasquads.
My brother is a scout and is attending his first scout day of the year today. Will be at one or two a day all around the midwest for the next several weeks. The major part of his job this time of year. I've always felt that college coaches that DON'T hold a scout day each year, don't always have the best interests of their players in mind. Most schools have one, but not all seem to like to showcase their players to the pros.
Ty Wigginton of the D-Rays credited the scout day at UNC Asheville for getting him on the radar, as he ran a great 60-time and hit well... ..of course it helped he followed it up with a great college season. But it was the scout day that started it all.
