First, Gibsonville isn't in the middle of "nowhere". You're 15 miles from Greensboro so things are convenient.

2nd, we have no idea what graduating class you are from your post.

3rd, Knowing a HS and a position would be nice.

4th, what are your grades like?

You can get seen, but you have to do some of the work. They scouts aren't sitting at home waiting for a phone call saying "here I am, look at me".

Start on this web page and read every link, especially the recruiting time-line. Everyone can be seen, but they have to go where the eyes are.

PhoenixDad has given you great advice. I would also suggest starting with your HS coach. Have you discussed with him your desire to play baseball in college? Many times the HS coach, who knows your level of play, can suggest options. If no scouts have been out to your school to watch you or other 06 & 05 players, than YES, you will need to go to them. First you must have an honest evaluation on what level of college program (JC, Div III, II, I, etc.) might be the best fit for your skills & GPA. This is the group of colleges you want to start contacting. Read the recruiting tips on the link provided above AND get your parents involved asap. There is much you can do now to get in shape for your junior season along with planning for and attending camps and/or showcases where you can been seen by the right level of college coaches. Good Luck. Smile
Scouts just don't show up anywhere unless they are bored and don't have anything to do that day. Ask your coach what level does he think you can play. Tell him that you want to play in College. Coach contacts coaches of schools that he feels you are capable of playing at and academic fit. Coaches call your coach and get a schedule and it goes from there. You have to help yourself. You have to let your coach know that you want to play. You have to get out and put yourself in a situation where people will see you (showcase etc). You are no more in the country than my High School. We have had players drafted and in several colleges playing right now. If you wait for someone to just drop by and offer you something your in big trouble.

I disagree with this somewhat. I was at a game at Lake Norman High School back in the spring. I'm not sure who they were playing that day, maybe South Rowan. Well, in comes Gary Randall who is the area scout for Major League baseball. I ask him who he is there to see, there weren't any All Americans on either team. He tells me he's there to see two teams he just hasn't seen yet this year.

He goes on to tell me that in his area (North & South Carolina and the eastern half of Tenneessee) he requests a schedule from all the high schools each year and he only gets a response from less than 25%. And of the ones who do respond it's pretty much the same schools every year. It makes me wonder, how time consuming is it to fax or e-mail a schedule?

I happen to run a showcase company and scout as well. Just like everyone else we send out the letters to every high school in the area asking for recomendations in fact we even post a message here on the baords. I would say 25% is being generous. Then parents complain that there kid isn't getting a fair shot. We can only see what we are told is out there. Yes occassionaly we find a diamond in the rough by just stopping by but that is pure luck. If coaches would just take the time to reply to the scouts, colleges and showcases that ask they could hlep hundreds of more kids and us as well.

It does not take to much effort to answer a few questions and send a schedule. I hope more coaches see this and act on it.
EGBaseball,

It is late notice but I would be willing to give you an opportunity to be seen and prove your skills this upcoming Saturday Jan 29th in Maryville, TN if you can make it there.

We are hosting our All-region selection showcase and I would extend an invitation to you just to see if you can back up your desire to be seen.

Feel free to go to our web site at Between The Lines for more information on the event.

I know it is short notice but I am always willing to give a player a chance if they want one.
