Does anyone have experience with a scout calling college coaches for a player and that helping the player get on a school's radar?  I'm sure it happens but I just don't have experience with it.

A local scout has offered to make phone calls for my son, which I really appreciate.  I'm assuming that a follow-up call to the coach by my son would be a great idea.

Yes, what PG said.  When son was playing in Scout league, there was frequent communication between scouts and college RC's.  His scout coach had a ritual of placing the rosters in the backstop fence for RC's (and other scouts) to access.  He was good about communicating likely fits and offering to make a call or to be a reference for the schools he recommended.  Most of the players in the league are certainly good college prospects but not necessarily draft candidates so it becomes a primary function of the scouts to also facilitate the college connection.  The idea, of course, is that the relationships become reciprocal down the road.
