Western Branch VS Cox High School Saturday 10 am. I am ready to watch some baseball like everyone else on this site. We should only see rain tonight and Wednesday here in Chesapeake with clear weather Thursday, Firday and Satruday. Got my propane heater ready to go as it should be cool and sunny with the a forecast in the low 50s.
Dinwiddie was leading Freeman through about 5 innings today.

Lee Davis was leading Courtland well into their game as well.

Deep Run got no serious work done in a laugher against a seriously undermanned Hopewell team. It's going to be a long season for Hopewell.

Cosby beat Hermitage, 7-1, in a game where Hermitage relied on several freshman and sophomore pitchers. Maybe not this year, but there are a lot of quality arms there. Unfortunately for Hermitage I understand at least some of them will go to the new Glen Allen HS next fall!
Hanover looked very good. Some of their pitchers did look young but they are well coached. Not sure how many they graduated but Hickory graduated 9 or so last year and this tells me they were close to evenly matched. This was a three-way. The PA-Hickory scrimmage went first and was only 4 innings. I am sure the shortened scrimmage was to give Hanover some consideration for travel time and to give both PA and Hickory a chance to play them. All coaches did a good job manageing players and time. But I realize at the end of the day it was still just a scrimmage but at least it was being played.
Briar Woods HS defeated Sherando HS 14-3 tonight. In what was the first time on the field this season for BW, the guys played a very solid game all the way around -- pitching, offense & defense.

Sherando clearly has a lot of strength, and should be a solid team this season. The biggest difference in the game was one tough inning for the Sherando pitching, that opened a gap in what would otherwise have been a 6-3 game.

Centerville, Stone Bridge and West Springfield tomorrow evening at Centerville in a 3-way...5 innings each as I understand it...

Quick Edit - "Visiting" team listed first below:

Game 1, West Springfield vs. Centerville ended up 19-7 with Centerville on top.

Game 2, Stone Bridge vs. West Springfield ended up 15-0 with Stone Bridge on top.

Game 3, Stone Bridge vs. Centerville ended up 3-2 with Stone Bridge on top.

I didn't get there until the 4th inning of Game 1 but was told Bobby Wahl did not pitch in Game 1. He did not pitch in Game 2 either. Ryan Ashooh pitched in Game 3 for 2 innings as did Taylor Lambke.

Another 10 innings tonight...Those first two were LONG games! Temp was around 40 by the time everything wrapped up...going to dress a bit warmer tonight!

Landstown tied Poquoson 6-6 after 7 1/2 innings...

Crockett and I believe Pinder were both outstanding for Poquoson, first time I've seen either pitch. That said, Poquoson only led 3-1 after those two finished pitching. After Poquoson scored three more in the bottom of the 7th, Landstown scored 5 in the top of the 8th, led by Scott Hurrell's opposite field 3-run HR. Poquoson did not bat in the bottom of the eighth.

Very impressed with Poquoson's program....

Lake Braddock, Madison, and Westfield scrimmaged last night at Waters Field. It looked like the coaches did a good job getting all the kids in the games. It was nice to watch some baseball again.

So True!

Had plans to hit several Tues PM scrimmages, but (what must've been a bad burrito) only managed to watch a friend's son (Falls C.H.S.) for a couple of innings @ Fairfax (ooof. Not good) - never made it to Waters...

so, what happend out there folks??? :-)

Hey Jess:

How did Fairfax look? I know a few kids that play there.

Thanks in advance.

It was 6 (maybe 7)- 0 Falls Church by the top of the 2nd. Fairfax pitchers couldn't (seemingly) find the strike zone.

Fairfax puzzles me. I've seen a few of their kids in travel games do very, very well, yet the school's teams haven't. What's up there?

Where would you place Fairfax in terms of the Liberty?

I hear you. I have my theories, but won't air them here. Too bad. Some real good kids, and real good players before they get out of little league. Most just are not that good up against solid HS competition...the same competition they did real well against while in LL. By looking at the Fairfax roster...3-4 very solid players (and 1 is injured now), but bottom end of the roster won't help at all. Again, just my opinion based on the ones I know.

That's my perception as well. As to your theories, I'd love to hear 'em, as I'm a bit puzzled, but you're correct - this isn't the place. FWIW, I've taught/worked with youth Basketball in NoVa, and I've seen the same thing happen there.

Doubles, as to the Liberty District, I only know @ a couple of teams, but I can't see Fairfax doing much better.

They should be a notch above the bottom-tier of the Liberty, but I don't see them being any threat to the usual teams at the top at this point.

So they are better than South Lakes/TJ? Are they equal to Marshall??

Doubtful.
