cougarbaseball -- you requested a report on Birdville after Monday's scrimmage....I'll do the best I can in light of the fact that no one on either team was wearing a number -- and no lineups were turned in to the press box.
Birdville has a solid team with decent hitting through the top half of the order and solid defense -- I think they committed one error. We saw a boatload of pitchers -- they led off with a lefty that looked good. Based on the 8-inning scrimmage, in very cold weather, I would say that there are a number of things that the coach will focus on before the start of district play -- primarily his pitchers holding runners on base so his catcher(s) have a chance, and solidifying his OF. Even the lefties have slow moves to the plate and we stole several bases. Their hitters were agressive -- some overly so, but that may have been a case where they were trying to make something happen as they compete for a spot in the lineup. They did a nice job of situational hitting on a few occasions.
Plano East outhit Birdville (11-9?) -- and won the scrimmage 12-9 or 12-10 (who cares!). It was a good first scrimmage.
Now, I know you understand that others here may report -- Birdville killed us!!! or We crushed Birdville!!! I'll go out on a limb and say they will compete for a playoff spot in a so-so district and struggle in a strong one -- I know nothing about their district. My comments aren't meant to offend anyone from BV -- I think the coach would agree with my somewhat generic review.
