I'm thinking this coming Saturday (March 7) would normally have been a big day for scrimmages, but I have to assume that's no longer in the cards. Probably no one has even been outside yet, and I doubt fields will be playable this weekend.
Just wondering if anyone knows of any scrimmages being scheduled, that might actually take place?

Western Branch vs COX on the 10th at Cox. I would venture to say there will be NO baseball played for atleast another week, minimum. Still snow on the ground and forecast is not promising. Indoor workouts grow old after a while...
Most of the beach schools have scrimmages this week, as well as through the weekend. However, I don't see them getting the games in. Still snow on the fields and when it melts, its going to be a muddy mess.
Agreed. 2 weeks of the HS season gone with nary a day on the field. Stinks. Advance forecast looks great next week so let's hope Mother Nature plays nice for a change,,,

Cosby @ Riverbend is scheduled for Saturday. Pretty sure that's not going to happen though...

Our kids stayed after today for an inter squad scrimmage and a hockey game broke out!
Just found out NOVA is expecting 5+ inches of snow Wed night into Thur. So the existing 6" on the ground gets an added layer.
Crazy. It has pushed back tryout dates down here in SED land. Mother nature letting us all know who is in control!!
Sigh. This is ridiculous. But in fairness, I'd say the NORMAL temps and sunlight yesterday plus all the rain will probably push snow cover down to less than 50% and that a coating on well-lit baseball fields...until the next (and please G-d, LAST icy precipation event of 2015) batch comes in. Even with sun and temps in the 50s, I doubt fields will be playable until mid next week, maybe late next week.

Agree. Makes for some sloppy first few weeks of ACTUAL games....because they aren't far off.
King George has a scrimmage schedule for Thursday vs Massaponax. With the current forecast I don't see that happening. The other scrimmage is scheduled for the 12th vs Culpeper - remains to be seen if Mother Nature cooperates.

I can say with a high degree of confidence Ponax - KG is not going to happen...in fact I would be surprised if either school actually has classes on Thursday 
The only solace is, we're all in this together. No one has an advantage over anyone else. Because to my understanding, there's no corner of the state that the weather has given a pass.

How often does this happen though? I don't think it happens enough to garner changing the overall amount of games. They certainly could make more 3 game weeks perhaps. Extending the season is not a solution, but could they move the practice/tryout dates up a week, thus moving the start of the season up one week? I don't know if that's an option (legally/rules??).

100% chance of not happening. Received e-mails stating KG schools are closed tomorrow - no scrimmage.
I think in Tidewater at least the season will start as scheduled. Snow is off the ground and most teams start the week of March 16 so there are 10 days for things to get cleaned up. A few 50+ degree days and that will happen. Might be a little muddy still but games will be played in most places.

Not dramatically different. Once the additional 5-8 comes down today/tomorrow, we've got clear sailing of 40s+ temps, so the fields may be ready for next weekend's scrimmages.
luv baseball, I hope it starts on time (Mar 16) but im not holding my breath.

The Tidewater area had a lot of rain and the temps are well below freezing today. Fortunately for us, no snow. Now if things would just dry out enough to get on the field. Should be warmer all next week.

If we could just get 4-5 sunny days in a row NoVA fields would probably be okay. But rain seems to arrive strategically to keep the fields unplayable. Grrr...

Coach Miller will have that gap narrowed by mid-season, but the talent pool there is just not nurtured as it is in other areas.
NR had a three way scrimmage with York and Woodside. For York, Harp (RHP) was particularly sharp. Looked to be 86-87 with a solid breaking ball. He has a chance to throw pretty hard! York also had a lefty that was low 80s who mixed it up and threw well. For Woodside, Moyer (RHP) was similar. Seemed to be mid-upper 80s with a good breaking ball. He also did a great job controlling the running game.
NR played well in all facets. As usual at this time of the year, there are some things to clean up, and plenty of room for improvement. All in all, very solid.
