AAA National championship game between Boston's Pawtuckett Redsox team who won the International League title and Arizona's Reno Aces who won the Pacific Coast League title. The game will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network at 7:00 PM EST on Tuesday.

This evening, I get to fly to Montgomery Alabama where I will pick up my son's car and drive it to Durham over night (about an 8.5 hour drive). My wife and parents will meet me at the hotel in Durham on Tuesday and we'll head to the game in the afternoon. My folks are on their way to Florida and my wife, son, and I will head back to Cleveland on Wednesday. Hopefully, the three of us and all his "stuff" can fit into the car Smile

Regarding the game...

Not often do players get to play in the last game of the season. I hope it goes well for my son this time as he played in a couple of championships in high school, came close in college, but has to this point wound up on the short end of the stick.

Ironically, he'll be playing tomorrow night's game at the home of the Tampa Bay Ray's AAA team the Durham Bulls. Durham is of course out of the competition but he is still playing. Interesting how things work out sometimes...

I find the irony in going to Durham amusing, but then again there is so much irony in this game for many players.

My player returned to Jupiter this week to play in a qualifier for the MLB WBC 2013 in March (Team Israel). Son is proud to be a part of history, a first for Israeli baseball. Strange set of emotions as I sat in the backfields, HS games, tournaments, PG woodbat, high A @Roger Dean, it hit me that as difficult as the journey has been, son is still hanging in there.

Best of luck to TB and the Aces, and best of luck to all of those who are involved in instruction, fall, winterball, etc.
I am so thankful for the support here...

I am going to step out of character here however... big time

Baseball America screwed up the MVP award and it is not the first time they've done that imho. The guy with the most hits in the game did not get the MVP. The same guy who had the most extra base hits in the game did not get it. The same guy who had the most stolen bases in the game did not get it. Oh btw, that same guy made the best defensive plays in the game imho. Other than that, the guy Baseball America picked was the right guy. I get sick of this cr-ap. However, I guess the only voting that matters is the Diamondbacks. It still ticks me off however. Sorry to all of you for venting like that...

CD,

Was only able to record by the 4th inning. If the full DVD or Blu ray becomes available, I would be interested in getting it.

Not sure if you know, but my son was born in Reno so the place has a special place in our hearts! Was longing for the day to wear my Aces cap that my sister in law gave to me during the inaugural season!

Again Congratulations to Tyler! I wish this game will open up more opportunities for him!

Ryanrod - thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. Forgive me for what I posted above but I am not backing down this time...
CD I live 20 minutes from the Stadium and couldn't make it. Man I wish I could have. Not only to see you and meet your family but to see a great baseball player like Tyler play the game. I understand your frustration. And you have every right to be upset. But don't let it spoil the moment or the memory. Don't give them the satisfaction my friend. I am so happy for you , Tyler and your entire family. Congrats!!!

Thanks Coach May. I feel better now the spirits have worn off Big Grin

Thanks again everyone for their kind wishes. Now, a 9 hour car ride home Smile
Congrats to Tyler! Sounds like he had an awesome game. He seems to produce at every level, which is all he can do. I understand your frustration about the MVP award but I'm sure you realize that he took care of his business and everything else is subjective opinion. I'm sure the powers to be with the D'Backs noticed who the main productive player was in that game. And, ultimately, that's all that really matters.

Drive safely!
Congrats to Tyler, and that was some nice hitting. I saw him last night but did not see this thread until now.

Pawtucket looked like their MLB team with fielding errors and leaving men on base. Normally, I would have turned the channel but saw this "Bortnick" kid tearing it up. At one point I thought he was going to steal third, but the guy after him hit a bomb.

Well done Dad. Smile

The Diamondbacks' front office saw the game...and they don't give a flying flip what "Baseball America" thought. I understand your reaction completely and would have felt the same, myself. However, at this point in Tyler's career, I have to believe that the club executives' perception is the much more valuable opinion.

In any case, what a wonderful, wonderful evening for your deserving son, his family, and friends!!!

You are 1000% correct and I appreciate your comments. Kevin Towers - the GM, and Mike Bell - the farm director, were at the game and both introduced themselves to him after the game. Theirs is the only vote that counts.

Look, I am not going to sour grapes this. I wish he would have won the award but he'll just have to keep his focus on the prize - like he always has.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments and letting me vent a little last night.

I hadn't paid any attention to this thread before now. A little while ago I saw a small article in the Boston paper on Pawtucket losing the AAA World Series. After the call ups I was looking at the box score to see who's left on the team. Then I noticed one of the stars of the game for Reno was a kid named Bortnick.

Congraulations!

Writers have to cover for their prejudices and mistakes. When the trade occurred I believe Baseball America called your son a throw-in non prospect who will be back in AA soon. I'm thinking giving your son the award would have meant having to eat crow. The wimp thing to do was ignore his accomplishments.

Anyway he gets the unoffical HSBASEBALLWEB MVP Award. I'm guessing it would be unanimous. What matters more is what the D'backs front office thinks.
