Depending on what happens with the draft, my wife and I may take a 9-10 day trip through the Cape this summer.  Will fly in somewhere and then take some time sightseeing and catching various games.  Maybe shoot up to Maine for a couple of days at some point.

I've never spent any time up there and definitely am not familiar with proximity between teams, etc., so would love to get input on where we should look to fly in/out, places to stay, must see/eat places along the way, and anything else that could help some first timers have a relaxing and fun week with a wide open agenda.  Would hope to catch games at at least three different parks.

Also, let me know if a day or overnight trip to Maine is too ambitious (not sure how long a drive that is or if they have puddle jumper regional flights that we might take)

Here's where the teams are located ...

Its 60 miles from Logan Airport to Sandwich (beginning of the Cape). It's an hour at normal times. It's the worst hell you will ever experience on Friday night. Or Sunday night heading out.

It's only 30 miles from Sandwich to Chatham. How long depends on whether you're going 55 or 15 mph.

It's 115 miles from Logan Airport to Portland,  ME. It's another trip from hell to avoid on Friday nights or a Sunday exit.

I live on the North Shore of Boston and have a home in Maine. My family used to have a home in Hyannisport (Cape).

You can easily do a day trip from Falmouth MA to Martha's Vineyard. Take bikes or rent them. A lot of the island is bikeable.

Newport RI is only 60 miles from Sandwich.

All of these trips are easy if you avoid the wrong day or wrong time of day.

Agree with everything RJM just said, especially this part, "It's the worst hell you will ever experience on Friday night. Or Sunday night heading out."  Avoid coming or going to/from Cape on Friday afternoon/eves and Sunday same.

I'll throw in flying in and out of Providence, RI also.  Smaller airport and easy access to/from Cape.

Folks lived in Chatham for 20+ years in retirement.  That's where our whole baseball adventure began.  Son watching those college players at a young impressionable age rubbed off.

Congrats to your boy!!  Quite an honor.  Check back in at summer's end.  Want to hear all about the experience....yours and your son's!

Family has lived on the Cape for 40 years ... The 3 must hit CCBL ballparks IMO would be Chatham (try to got to a Friday night game when they have an old fashioned band concert in the nearby town park before the game ... very cool vibe.) Pop into the Squire Pub for a pint before or after the game, quintessential Cape Cod!   Orleans is out there a bit, but well worth the drive and Cotuit is a really neat venue (Keep an eye out for Peter Gammons, he lives nearby and attends a lot of games .... Hit the nearby Kettle Ho for a pre or post game beverage!

Enjoy the trip, it's a special place for summer baseball!

It's pretty expensive so plan ahead. Instead of Maine I would visit Nantucket (my fav place foreverv where we spent summers) and get some whale watching in!  We stayed in Falmouth to watch games mostly as well as the all-star game, where you will see future major leaguers. Martha's Vineyard is a special place too. Nothing like cape cod. Nothing.

Good luck and let us know where he will be.

Which team, Nuke?  Keewartson is supposed to go to Harwich this summer.   I have a whole Pinterest board set up of places to go and see.  I have been to Cape Cod in the off season and to Martha's Vineyard (we did a day trip and took a van tour there), but can't give you any recomendations.  Thus, my Pinterest board.   PM me and I will send you the Pinterest link if you are interested.  It also has some rental houses on  it

Good luck with the draft!

Thanks to all for the info.  Sorry if it wasn't clear, my son isn't playing in the Cape this year, he's a 2017 HS grad.  He is hopeful to play in the Cape in College if he goes that route (and we'll make the Cape trip then), but if he is drafted and signs, then my wife and I may treat ourselves to some down time and make that trip now.

Thanks again, I'll definitely use this if we make the trip this year or later.
