As a few of you know, I have been undergoing rigorous training to obtain ICF certification as a Life Coach. I'm in the thick of this training with ICA, one of the most respected coach training institutions in the world.

One of my niche areas is in working with student-athletes (specifically ballplayers) and post-academic ballplayers facing transition. As part of my training, I would like to work with one such athlete absolutely free of charge. This would entail a 30-45 minute telephone session (my dime) once a week, for 12 weeks, with additional e-mail support as needed.

What would our conversations 'look' like?

A coach is a facilitator, co-strategist, and motivator all in one. This is not therapy, counseling, or mentoring. My job is to work with the student-athlete or post-academic athlete on issues of self-motivation, goal-setting, and on making and keeping commitments which will clear the path ahead.

People who are coached get where they want to be faster, and with greater confidence, clarity, and sense of ownership and purpose.

Many young people lack the self-discipline required to turn dreams into committed, goal-driven reality. That's where I come in.

If this sounds like you, or someone you know, give it a thought. I prefer to work only with HS juniors and seniors, or those post-HS ballplayers facing transition (getting to the next level or even if considering hangin' 'em up and moving on).

I hope you all have known me long enough to know I would not pull a 'bait and switch' on HSBBwebsters (or anyone else). Up front, the free session has been claimed.

I have heard from a number of folks and I just want to let you all know that I do have some time in my schedule to work with a few other kids right now, but I'm out of free slots. If you go to the 'Programs' page of my website, you'll see a variety of options.

Players -- thanks for contacting me and I do want to help!! I ask that if you are under the age of 18, that you please have a parent contact me.

JUlie/MN-Mom, I'm sorry if this has slipped into the 'commercial' zone -- I just felt like I ought to let people know what's what at this moment. There's obviously a need here, and I will PM you about adverts.

Thanks everybody.

Bob/Krakatoa,

No problem at all about letting folks know about your exciting new venture. Actually I typed up a post earlier wishing you well and vouching for your credibility etc., but my Internet connection failed just before I posted it, and I had to leave for an appointment.

I'm back now and just want to say:

Folks, I've traded numerous PMs and e-mails with Bob (Krakatoa) in the past year or two, and he has always impressed me with his positive, proactive view of life, and his ability to give great advice! I'm confident that the players or adults who work with him in a coaching relationship will benefit a lot!

Julie
