My son is an 09. He sent in his application form for Selectfest and was not chosen. He has a rating from perfect game of an 8, and is on their top '09 prospects to watch from the Northeast. He was also named a top power hitter from Under Armour/ baseball america. We had a scout fill out the form and he rated him all at the top level or just right below. I'm curious as to whom is selected for this showcase, should we have just had him fill out all top numbers just to get in? I'm very surprised that he wasn't chosen to be honest with you.

Did your son play on a good AAU/summer team. A lot of the kids at Selectfest are taken from those rosters. The managers of teams like Farrah Builders, BaseballU, Richmond County Baseball Club, Tri-State Arsenal and the Cust facility teams all have a relationship with Selectfest. Their players are known to Selectfest and they are either entered into the showcase immediately or tracked closely by Selectfest during the H.S. season.

There are other AAU teams i'm sure that give Selectfest a nudge regarding players on their roster.

Players today who are talented enough to be at a Selectfest Showcase but are not blue chip players can and often are missed by Selectfest, PerfectGame and any other showcase driven businesses if they don't play top summer ball. It is not that they tried and didn't make these teams. They either couldn't afford it or stayed loyal to their local Legion team.

These players will usually find themselves at the local DIII teams whose coaches attend Legion games in the summer.

Selectfest does one other thing that I find disturbing. They have had sophmores at their showcase. A player does not need to be at Selectfest twice. Unless Selectfest did not receive enough applications from juniors, they should make sophmores wait until they are eligible to be contacted by college coaches. Remember, every sophmore at Selectfest is one more junior that was denied his last opportunity to showcase his skills at Selectfest.

baseballmom24,
Dont worry about one showcase. if your son is as good as you stated he will get noticed.Ive seen people get really tied into some of these showcases and certain camps, personally my son went to one of these camps last year and I though it was ok. Try and do some PG showcases, those are highly respected by college coaces. Ever look at a college roster and the players bios many will refer to their PG rating. So many kids trying to get into these and some get in that maybe shouldnt be who knows. But just go in a different direction. There are all types of ways to get looked at. if you have a professional scout willing to write things for you then get him on a scout team this next fall, those are usually free and a lot of college scouts come to those. The scout should be able to open up some eyes for you. good luck

Reopening an old thread with the following question - is the opinion still the same that sophomores do not need to showcase at selectfest and others - blue grey, pg, impact etc? Seems to me that there are more colleges signing kids earlier and earlier that it could be too late to wait until junior year to get noticed. No sophomore parent wants to "waste" money, but no parent wants to waste opportunity either. Thoughts anyone?
