I was advised to send some letters out to some prospective colleges that likely will be attending the PG Underclass to advise them my son will be playing in this tourney. I like the idea, give me your thoughts.
I would think that emails would work just as well and get there alot quicker. I think it is a good idea. But have your son send the coaches emails. Who he plays for , what posistion he plays , etc etc.
Eric, See the green pullout tab on the top left side of this page? That tab will take you to ALL the info you need. And, Coach May is correct, have your son send the emails/leters. Also, have him fill out "prospect questionaires" (available on school websites) for the schools he is interested in.
Where would I really want to go to school and play baseball? Now where would I really want to go to school and play baseball if those schools end up out of reach?
Some kids are fortunate they have just about every school available to them because they are very talented and have very good grades.
You have to be honest with yourself and your child. What is his baseball ability right now? What is his academic situation? Do you want to pay out of state tuition. Is there a school in state that offers the same type of academic situation and baseball opportunities that the out of state schools offer? Is he living in a state where he is going to have to look out of state for the right fit for him?
Once you have hammered out these questions make a list and then send each school an email. If your going to the PG underclass depending on your list many will be there. Tell them about yourself and what team you are playing on. Tell them about your interest in their school etc.
Also tell each coach in the email where your son plays in the summer fall and HS. Include contact information for his coaches on all his teams and anyother coaches that have seen him play. Include pro scouts contact information if you have it.
Be honest about your sons ability and honest about what level he can play at. If your son is an average HS player , does not stand out , then make sure your contacting programs that would be a good fit for him. That is just an example. If your not sure what level of baseball suits his ability then he needs to attend some showcase events so he can be properly evaluated.
