is it ok to send an email to a college coach as a sophomore? just like a, 'hey, like to meet you and am interested in your program, i play here and there', kind of thing? is that one way to get your name out there?
My son has done that to about 65-80 colleges as a preemptive notice before we went to a PG tournament that I knew a lot of them would/might be at. So YES, and we got some responses back in email form advising of camps etc, and my son is also a Soph. It is a lot of work mind you but it doesnt hurt. We will do a follow up email to those colleges once the HS season is over, plus we had sent out his HS and Summer tournament schedule to them as well.
I agree with your point and what RJM followed up with is quite valid. This gets you on their lists period, not just for camp notifications etc. I will say too that a handful of colleges did personalize the responses and wished him luck etc not jsut a blanket camp info response.
