MLB scouts are often competing with other MLb scouts to get the best players to their tryout camp.
One solution is to send all the players you know cant play to the others guys tryout camp, while keeping the legit prospects for yourself.
True story
2 Simliar tryout camps with in 2 weeks. One camp was sent all the players who they knew could not play AT ALL.
Talent Level at Camp One: fastest pitcher 84 mph. AVG 74-75 mph. One player had saw off one finger with a buzz saw before attending the tryout camp. Fastball high 70's. Another players whose curve was at 73 mph, fastball at 72 mph. No players signed
Talent Level at camp 2. Fastest pitcher 93 mph. AVG MPH 88-89 mph. 10 players signed.
