I was thinking recently about some old threads that had an impact upon me when I first became a webster. Most of them were swept away in the 'closet clean-out' of about a year ago. What were some of your favorite threads from 'back in the day'??

One I remember in particular was a link on pitching, and one proud dad (can't remember who it was now) posted a photo of his HS son smiling next to a velo display board which was showing '88' as in mph. I was new to the site and remember thinking, 'Wow, that's cool. Wonder if my son will hit that one day.' But the next several posts were very unkind to this poster, basically calling him out for having the gall to post such a picture. I thought that wasn't so cool and, being new to the site, made my wade in to the water very careful indeed.

Other posts that stand out in my memory are Bullwinkle's Frappr (actually all of BW's posts sort of stand out!) and a picture Fungo postd of his 'house'.

I've received some really nice PMs from people that I've saved as little treasures as well.

So, as part of the effort to get through January, anyone else want to share posts that they remember particularly well? That made you laugh? That haunt you? That made you cry?

Great topic Krak,

Mine was an Fungo post prior to the member reboot in 2003. Fungo Jr was 16 or a little older and drove off one day to a baseball function in his Blazer for the first time without our Fungo riding shotgun. His views on that day were incredible and helped shape my thoughts on my young son. I realized then, my son would drive off without me one day and I better be prepared to smile and wave.
THANKS Fungo !

Great post...THIS is the true spirit of the board. ALL of Fungo's & Bullwinkle. Have learned a lot from TR and BeenthereIL & Its. I wish I could recall specifics but on more than one occasion I have spit out my coffee laughing and a few times I have shed tears. This board covers all aspects of baseball...even how to deal with "the time to quit". I have read this site since 2002, posted very infrequently (mostly because everyone says it so much better), started to post more, but having serious second thoughts... apparently not too swift at communication skills. Smile
Ours was a thread in the "Ask About Colleges", titled "DIII", begun in June of 2004.

We had just discovered hsbaseballweb and were reading everything posted.....trying to learn as much as we could.....and realizing we had probably signed on too late....we had thought all the coaches would come knocking on our door.... Frown

The posters on this thread were some of the ever knowledgeable and faithful......TR, HeyBatter, Hokieone, Infielddad, OldVaman....there was even a "conflict" going on between TR and a former poster (since removed)....the infamous Buddy Baseball.

One poster, Fc v Dad......mentioned the academic money available at D3's......at one school in particular.....we were impressed.....and quickly sent fc v dad a private message asking him for the name of the school......and telling him we had never even thought of D3 schools....as I said.....we were new to the whole process....and not too bright about it all.....yet Smile

Fc v Dad sent us info....and then when my son went across country....alone.......to attend a camp at one of the VA schools he liked....Fc v Dad was there to watch, report to mom and dad....and get him safely to the airport.....he shared recruitment experiences with us, always answered our questions, and.......was a good friend to.......strangers......

For us that thread showed what hsbaseballweb is all about.....and we got a good friend out of it too...

Thank you Charlie

Krak, I remember the 88 photo and know who the dad and son are, and also remember that some of the posts in response were not congratulatory. By the way, that son climbed to the 90+ mark not too much later, and went on to pitch in college.

I remember my first ever post on the site (on the old server). It was about 4 years ago or so, my son was 15, and I said something like "my pitcher son only throws 75 mph and obviously all the others on this site throw 90+ ... is it hopeless?" Felt so dumb afterwards that I was tempted to go back and erase my post, but I didn't. Big Grin

I also fondly remember photos of Fungo's "mansion", and some hilarious threads about Bubba's baseball showcase.

And I remember reading with great interest OnePlayer'sPop's humble and sincere reports about his son's draft experience in senior year of high school. I don't remember all the details, but I recall OPP sharing with us how Zach had seemed headed for college, but made his own decision and I think left a note for his parents that he had decided to sign instead. I guess it worked out pretty well! good

Does anyone else remember MetsMom95? I have wanted to follow her son since he got drafted out of HS a few years back, but I actually have forgotten his name.
