2011 son sent out letters in June to 18 schools introducing himself and his summer schedule. A number sent letters back thanking him and then he gets the normal camp stuff during the summer.

Sept 1st rolls around this morning and the first email in his inbox is from..... Stanford.

I know this is just a small step, and I am not putting much into it other than recognizing that they seem to have it together when it comes to recruiting. I suspect that they have a have such a narrow criteria both academically and baseball wise they have to cast a wide net to winnow down to the few they accept.

Just curious if others have the same experience with them?

Yes - exact same experience. Stanford and Coach Stotz are masters of the email when it comes to recruiting. Putting it in perspective, when my son went through the process two years ago, Coach Stotz told me they started with a list of 1900 prospective recruits, then narrowed to one hundred by summer, until finally they had 11 spots to fill. The last number varies from year to year, but that gives you some idea. Still, you can't make the final cut if you aren't on their radar screen... it is encouraging that your son made the initial list. And Coach Stotz is one of the most affable, approachable and honest guys in the business. Enjoy the ride!

I'll second what Natural said.

Being on Stanford's e-mail recruiting list at this stage of the game doesn't mean all that much. NOT being on it, however, DOES mean something!

Your son will get regular emails from Coach Stotz. They are very personal and personalized. Many of them will ask for him to respond in some way. Some are philosophical/inspirational.

Stotz is a top quality guy, and is very approachable. Being on Stanford's email recruiting list on September 1 doesn't, of course, mean he will still be being actively recruited by them next August, but enjoy the process, because there is nobody better than Stotz at it.
Stanford is a well oiled machine (as I've said before) with their recruiting materials. You can expect frequent e-mails (weekly) with lots of great advice for getting the most out of your senior year. Things like when to take SAT's, how to raise your score, etc. If your son has questions they will be answered immediately. That made me think an assistant was involved as most coaches don't seem to be that prompt.

It's very flattering to get these e-mails and letters and see the letterhead addressed to your son. As a poster said they cast a wide net. If your son attends their camp it will become very obvious who is being recruited seriously.

Enjoy the ride but keep all options open as you also have to make it through admissions.

I am curious at what point they start to cut down the list since he is a Jr this year. He will be active in scout ball this fall and will most likely go to one or maybe both of the Arizona Fall Classics, (Jr/Sr) but in reality I would think he would not be developed enough to get a good read on his college abilities until next summer.
