well, here's the story. im a 15 year old sophomore at my high school. i didnt get to play baseball my freshman year because i had a torn ACL, in which i got it fixed that summer. however this year right after making my school's team as shortstop, i tear my ACL in the same knee the next day in gym class and im done for this season. im planning to play my junior year, however i cannot get my surgery till summer of 08 because of financial issues. im deffinately playing my junior year with a custom made brace of course. im trying to go far with baseball and in hopes of making it to the major leagues, but with so many things standing in my way, especially injuries, i dont know if i'll have a future in baseball with so many things standing in my way, keeping me from achieving my ultimate goal. i know i have to keep my head up and all that, but any advice u guys have would really help me because my confidence is low right now with all these things standing in my way. thank u in advance.

somerville, our highschool had a rash of tore ACL's, including my son. He had a good surgeon in August do his surgery and is back pitching DI. We had two football players tear theirs a week apart and were back playing 5 to 6 months later. Hang in there. With hard work it is doable. One of the football players just signed D1 baseball.
Somerville, I am not a player, but am the father of a high school player. You definitely have some obstacles. That is very unfortunate you tore your ACL again. If at all possible, I would highly recommend you get it fixed sooner rather than later. If you wait until summer 08 for surgery, you will not be able to play again until 2009.

You might also consider going to a different orthopedic surgeon. I see you are from Massachusets. I can recommed an outstanding orthopedic surgeon in Connecticut if you want to send me a PM. He specializes in sports injuries and he just did surgery on my son's knee for a torn meniscus. He has done many successful ACLs for athletes.

I wish you the best. I know it does not seem fair, but hang in there.
my previous two surgeries have been done by a 6 year surgeon in children's hospital in boston and the surgeon put my knee into this CPM machine which aids in bending my knee to a certain amount of degrees and i had to use this machine for about two weeks until i started walking again without crutches. also, i know some people say that recovery time for ACL reconstruction is about 9-12 months, however my current surgeon cleared me for sports after about 6 months. after those 6 months when i start playing again i have to wear a custom made brace for about a year while active to protect my knee from reinjury. my doctor said i can go back to playing baseball next year in 2008, but with a custom-made brace and i will be getting surgery in the off season. maybe in june of 08 when the season ends. then after that surgery, play in my senior year in 09. people have told me that new england surgeons are one of the best and as for my previous surgeries they were successful. i've had my right knee operated on in august 2005 and i havent suffered any setbacks since then and it's as good as new. and thank u everyone for all ur help.
