After 28 years at WSU, Gene Stephenson is leaving and will be coach at OU. He is taking with him Brent Kemnitz and Jim Thomas. This has been a devestating announcement to all our players. At first, they all were saying they wanted to get their release and follow them to OU. Right now, they are saying if they can get enough to stay here, they will stay and band together.

The players at OU are also devastated by this situation. Coaches Golloway and Corral were very respected by the players and there is talk of some of them planning to transfer. Sunny Golloway has asked to be considered for the WSU job and is to interview within a few days. How ironic it would be if OU and WSU staffs just traded places? I don't think this happens very often. But WSU couldn't go wrong if they hired both Golloway and Fred Corral, the pitching coach...both are excellent coaches.
Coming out of this story is the question of how OU could be 4 scholarships over the 11.7 limit. They obviously have a compliance officer to oversee what the coaches are doing and through this system of checks and balances they end up with upwards of 15 baseball scholarships? That, to me, would seem to be a at least as significant an issue as the coaching situation.
