Wow! Quite possibly the most poorly-constructed sentence I've seen on these boards! Eek Put down the cell phone once in awhile and stop writing as if the whole world is texting or on Facebook. Most of the people you'll encounter on this board are likely adults and don't find this type of shorthand writing nearly as cool as teens do. If it's their help you want, you might get more of it if you show them that you're serious; this text-style writing will likely turn them off.

i I (ditto for every later use of this word) was also very carious curious about this school as well? Period, not question mark. the Big boys begin new sentences with a capital letter only thing i head heard and i dont don't know if its it's true but there they're projected to make it you to the college world searis World Series this year Feel free to separate sentences with a period. now i could be way adding the word "way" adds nothing wrong but idk
Actually, I feel that the ? at the end of the first sentence is justifiable even though he's making a statement and not directly asking a question.

Must (I know it is an incomplete sentence, the "it" prior to "must" is implied.) be the off season.

That was an egregious example but we don't usually comment on spelling or grammar here.
I apologize for being so harsh Jake. Being a parent of two older teens though, this is a peeve of mine - constantly trying to help our kids realize that the whole world and all communication in it isn't done via text messages, Facebook, etc., where it IS very common/acceptable to use such terse and relaxed lingo. However, the difference though, IMO, is that in those media, there are often numerous short messages exchanged in something closer to realtime; so the tradeoff of keeping the conversation moving along in exchange for slightly less ease of comprehension is usually worthwhile.

I understand that the goal of writing in that style is all about timeliness and speed of posting, so proofreading before hitting "Post Now" seems like a waste of time. Maybe it's just me though, but I find myself having to read posts like this 2 or 3 times; so in my mind, why can't the original poster just proof it for us and save everyone else the bother? Smile

Again, sorry to come down so hard; you struck a nerve. Maybe you and others are well aware of when to switch to something a bit more formal in written communication? Then again, if this type of apparent sloppy/lazy writing at all leaks over into email communications with coaches, etc., you may not realize how you might come across.

Good luck in your quest.
Sandman,

It is not you that needs to apologize. Your communications are tremendously clear. I guarantee you that if any reasonable adult or college baseball coach tries to read a message written like post #2, they will move onto the next one. I know I did after I shook my head and had a good laugh.

Communication 101 - know your reader.

Shenandoah Tabbed as USA South Baseball Favorites

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.)- Shenandoah University, under the direction of eighth-year Head Coach Kevin Anderson, was picked to win the USA South Athletic Conference 2011 baseball title in the preseason coaches' poll. The Hornets will look to duplicate what was a stellar 2010 campaign. Shenandoah won the NCAA South Regional and reached the Division III World Series for the second consecutive season. The Hornets also captured the USA South Tournament Championship for the first time in program history.

The Hornets received six of seven first-place votes (36 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.

Methodist University finished second in the balloting with 29 points and the final first-place vote. Christopher Newport University placed third in the poll with 25 points while defending Conference regular season champions, N.C. Wesleyan College, received 23 points to finish fourth. Ferrum College, Averett University and Greensboro College, respectfully, rounded out the voting.

The 2011 campaign gets underway on Saturday, February 5th as Averett, Greensboro and Methodist are in action. The USA South Tournament will be played April 14th - 17th in Burlington, N.C. at the Burlington Athletic Stadium.

Getting back to Shenandoah Univ....

A couple of years ago, son was getting interest from Shenandoah staff and we took a tour of the campus. His thoughts were that the program seemed 'legit' (his word) and gaining in stature (my words). He really liked Coach Cameron (had just arrived from WVU) and his honest, straightforward style. But, in the end, the small school size was probably the major reason son chose to go another way. But, we both were favorably impressed with the way they treated my son during this process.

The on the field results speak for themselves. They have become one the region DIII powerhouses.

The facilites they use are a park adjacent to the campus. When were there, the facilities were being worked on and I understand they have continued to improve them. Having seen the Salisbury Univ facilities also...I would say they are comparable - but it has been a couple of years.

"baseballguy", I believe we spoke over the phone last year sometime, where did your son ended up going?
Speaking for the #3 preseason USAS team, a little love for my CNU Captains-further upgrades to the nicest facilities around: outfield walls are being padded, although I love the traditional old school wooden fence, dugouts upgraded with padded and netted pipes in front, a la MLB style. A pretty impressive place...although with the school's incoming freshman class averaging 3.8 GPA and 1207 SAT's, it's getting harder to gain admission.

Shenandoah is clearly the favorite in the USAS coming off of two back to back outstanding seasons, with D III World Series trips, and returning some true studs. Coach Anderson has certainly done a great job with the program and doesn't ignore the academic side either. I don't much care for that 60 man roster...seems kind of crazy to me. I know they field a JV team, but 60 players?

For the record, those 55-60 players has been a constant number for the last several years since a JV program has been started.

Furthermore, the choice to go to SU is on the player and his family, I don't believe Coach Anderson has a gun to anyone recruit's head forcing them to come to SU.

SU's success is drawing the players in and I would assume they can count the numbers of players on the roster, so they are informed of what the roster size is and the perception is that nobody on the roster has a problem with it as the size remains consistent in the ballpark of 55.

Ever thought that having a full-fledged JV program is paying its dividends?

Shenandoah is definitely doing a good job with its' program winning. But I have to agree w/ Hokieone. I think the roster is extremely large. Now what Coach Milburn says is true. No one is making them go to SU. But I believe that if CNU wanted to bring in 30 players a year they could do so. I believe their coach only recruits in what they loose each year. With that being said CNU does loose a lot of players that wish to go there to play. If you look at the roster they currently have 34 which is about the size of most D1 rosters.
Now lets clarify something, that 55-60 players is NOT all varsity players. They have a full-fledged JV program.

I believe the varsity is limited to 35??? (unconfirmed)

I know they only travel with less than 28 if I recall correctly. Now with home games, they'll probably dress just about everyone.

Bottom line, what SU is doing is working for them!

The turn-a-around with SU's baseball program since 2004 speaks for itself.
One more thing about SU Baseball.

Me personally, I did not see the 2009 trip to the World Series coming, just did not think it was there yet.

2010 World Series appearance, I thought that was more impressive because they basically lost their #2 and #3 pre-season starters in the rotation BUT they had other guys step and helped the team win.

Check this stat, for 2010, SU had accumulated 20 wins vs. 4 or 5 losses and had utilized 20 pitchers to that point in the season. If I recall, the majority of stats that I have ever seen where 20 pitchers have been called upon in 24 or 25 games, the majority of the time, that team has a loosing record.

IMHO, their JV program is paying huge dividends.

2011, now if Greg VanSickler's former high school team-mate can get it done on the bump like he did in HS and is fully 100% healthy ... I could see them doing a 3-peat. This other kid out pitched VanSickler in high school but Greg was a late bloomer as he graduated as a young 17yr old.

Gotta bump this up as a MiLB team is likely going to relocate to Winchester along with a $17 million dollar stadium is going to be constructed and Shenandoah will have access to play home games here!
