According to this article discussing the upcoming season for UVA, Mitchell Shifflett from Cosby is no longer playing (although he is still enrolled). He got a fair amount of playing time last year and I would think he stood to have an impact this year. I thought it was surprising.

Very doubtful.  He ran track (in HS) to improve his baseball skills and marketability.  Mitchell is a smart kid with a lot of skills, and two years of eligibility.  We hope to see him on a baseball field soon.  Great kid and great family, and we wish him the best.

I had heard talk of him transferring in search of a better playing time opportunity, which kind of surprised me as it seemed to me he had progressed quite a bit last year and might be looking forward to continuing to move up this year.  I do not know, but it sounds like maybe he decided to finish his UVA diploma while retaining some eligibility to use somewhere else next year?  If he graduates on time he won't have to sit out a year upon a transfer.
