What exactly do you mean when you say “information”? Much of the information about a player is public knowledge and is discussed freely while some information would not be discussed. This is big business and the ability to draft the best players is essential for a scout and his club’s success. Of course scouts are friends and talk amongst themselves but I doubt if they share notes about how they project players fitting into the forthcoming business deals on draft day. If I were a scout I would be very skeptical of any undisclosed information given to me by my competitor. Most of the scouts I talked to aren’t overjoyed with the MLB Scouting Bureau because they distribute information about players to all the clubs and tend to take scouting out of the scouts hands. One would have to believe the most successful scouts would be tight lipped with their “information”. You think Ford shares business information with Chevrolet? You think McDonalds and Burger King discuss hamburgers? Why should professional Baseball be different?

I believe scouts share information. All kinds, but not sure what is acceptable and what is not.

We had a scout come to our house, someone we knew quite well, discussed $$$. Got a call a few days later from another scout that told me that word was out about the $$$.

I am assuming that the scouting world is just like any other profession, they travel in circles, have close friends from other organizations, college coaches. There may be some who are quite professional keep to themselves, others may not be.

Not sure where the ethics comes into play. Sharing information that is not public knowledge, my opinion is no.
Might sound strange now, but years ago I would be friendly and listen to the scouts who liked to talk too much. I would remain silent when it came to players and what I knew or thought about them. Lots of inside info was picked up over a couple of beers at the end of the night.

Scouts work for an organization. Those in the front office do not want their scouts out there helping the competition. However, times have changed a lot since them days. Less and less secrets out there.
