Let's say a player performs extremely well in a PBR showcase but has never done a PG showcase.   Would you recommend just building off the PBR report or taking the chance and doing a PG showcase as well?   I understand that if the player is good he should show well regardless of where he plays but, I'm wondering what peoples' opinions are about taking the chance of having an "off day" after already receiving a favorable report from one organization?

It doesn't necessarily matter. If he has an off day, the schools at whichever showcase he attends is going to see that he didn't perform. A coach is going to recruit based on what they see with their own eyes over a dated report from a showcase that is profiting off your son. Every coach we've talked to said that they read some reports, but don't recruit players based off it as PBR/PG need to talk up the performance in order to keep customers happy. Ever see a kid with a PG score of 5?

You go to showcases to put yourself in front of schools you'd be interested in, not to get a nice writeup. See which showcase has more schools of interest attending and make your decision based off that.

Your player is trying to get recruited to play at the college level.  At that level, he will have to prove himself and then re-prove himself over and over again almost every day.  He would be best served taking on that mentality now and attack every event with that in mind.  Go to the events that will put him in front of the schools he wants to target.  There should be zero thoughts about concerns he will have an off day.  That mentality won't get it done in the long run.

If he did well, the reason I see for doing a PG, is to get an invite to the big ones.  The Futures is the PBR you want an invite to, and for PG, I would say it’s the PG National or National Underclass  and the PG Underclass All American/All American.  They will learn to perform under pressure and an off day, even on a big stage,  doesn’t kill their shot (even though it feels like it). They really need to always be motivated for the next step, not happy with past success.

The kid was recruited by a few top 20 college teams and offered by a couple of them. He never did a PG showcase and only one PBR showcase. Getting recruited really is pretty straightforward. Get good grades and play baseball at a higher level than those around you at venues where you'll be seen.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this is probably not everyone's case.

Getting recruited is pretty straight forward....if you're a pitcher with size throwing 90+. For all the rest, it gets complicated.

No matter the level (DI, II, III, NAIA), all other things being equal, programs are going to recruit the best players they feel they have a chance of landing.  So, if your an NAIA level recruit strive to be better than the other NAIA guys around you.

Also, I guess what I'm saying is your not going to be recruited based on showcase results. Just because you can put up great numbers doesn't mean you can actually play baseball.
