Also my email and phone number are pretty public, we and have at least two staff on site doing scores etc at each game in addition to coaches. Those are probably great people to ask. Seems like if you have a specific questions about a specific program, that you are in, the best way to get an answer is likely not a vague random post on hsbbweb.
I thought it was a clear question, not a "poorly worded post".

If player A gives up 3 runs in 3 innings shouldn't his ERA be 9?

If player B gives up 1 run in 3 innings shouldn't his ERA be 3?

Seems like the Showcase stats are being calculated based on 7 innings, but the games are 9 innings.

I intended it as a question for the Showcase League, and anyone else that wanted to comment.

Thought it was a legitimate question for discussion.
Sounds like a legit question ... after all there should be one standard for the people compiling stats.

But we all know most stats (vs. measurements and observation) are irrelevant. I recently signed a kid in the Atlantic League that gave up 5 runs in 2/3 of an inning at a tournament - go figure.

Everyone take a deep breath.

First off, the Showcase League is and has been great for NH/NE players looking for exposure and those running the program deserve major kudos.

However, SMAN's (and now some of his supporters) need to be a lttle less sensitive to any posts that question any aspect of the program. The question was legit and only sought clarification. From an outsider's view it doesn't come across as negative in anyway. If you are going to post stats you need to take full reponsibility for what is published. Since the league's games are scheduled for 9 innings, the ERA should be expressed as earned runs per 9 innings regardless of how many innings are actually played in any one game.
IMHO while the showcase league has done many good things for players in New England looking to go to the next level - there have been issues with stats and not just ERA calculations. Two of my son's frinds have seen mistakes in their individual stats. I have suggested they contact their coach and SMAN directly to have them corrected. I agree with JBAll if you are going to post stats you need to take responsibility for what you write even if as OZONE says they are ultimately irrelevant.

All that said bottom line is the showcase league - on the whole - is something the boys enjoy and take pride in being a part of.
Guys, this isn't our forum. There are a million "Showcases" out there and "Showcase ERA" could mean a million things. I don't get a notification when someone posts or anything so to say "there is no clarification from the league" is pretty ridiculous. All you have to do is call and ask.

It's based on nine innings. But you're right games were shortened the first week because of pending weather from the hurricane.

The software is not perfect, but it's pretty good and the support has been great from Pointstreak on fixing errors but you have to contact us not just post "Player A and Player B"

Some snags have come up with players filling in for Rhode Island the first weekend as they couldn't make it due to Irene duplicate players etc stats not being 100%.

I'd say that 75% of all "stat errors" we have been contacted about are parents thinking their son should get a single for an error or a double when the son take second on a throw, a stolen base when he advances on a wild pitch, etc.

Posting on someone else's forum is probably not the best way to get a question answered. Send an email or make a call to one of our score keepers to see if its a software mistake, a score keeping error, or just a difference of opinion.

I still don't know who player A is so I can't have someone look into the calculation. I'd be happy to look into it but you'll have to contact me.

I have heard good things and not so good things about the Showcase League. But this forum says it all to me. The Showcase League likes at all the postivies that come from this site, but not that a negitive is being talked about. This is all of a sudden not the place, send PM or e-mail. Keep it quite, we don't want everyone to know. This site is to talk about baseball good or bad. We are not all experts, and like to hear from other people there thoughts and experences. So my rant to the Showcase League is that this is a good thing, you can hear about issues and correct them, or at least be aware of them. Most organizations the parents talk behind the backs of the people in charge, then it turns into a fishing story, on this site Showcase League you are hearing what concerns parents and players of your league. You should be thankful.
First, my son is not playing in the Showcase League, he did play while in HS and had a generally good experience while playing. So, I have no vested interest here.

I happened to look at the ERAs after week one and thought they looked low.

As of today if you go to the stats page and calculate the ERAs for the first 3 players above 0.00 using a 9 inning game the ERAs are 1.5, 1.8, and 2.14. Not 1.17, 1.4, and 1.5. I know it's not a huge difference, but thought it was a legitimate question for discussion and for clarification by the league.

I assumed the answer would be something like "We are calcualting based on 7 innings since that is a regulation high school game and these are high school players".
Quick rant here....

As a coach in the league, all parents should know that we make it hard for the scorekeepers. We are trying to get players on the field so they can be seen and that format isn't as standard as the software wants it to be. The pitching aspect of the lineups makes things different than normal games because we have 3 or 4 pitchers we need to get in and spread the innings out. In a "normal" league I'd ideally throw a starter out there for 5-6 innings and go from there, but I'm going 3-2-2-2 with guys who are also playing other positions, mixing DHs, rotating positions. There is a lot of play in the roster. A lot of changes between innings are position changes and the software spits back error messages. I know the first week I had a player on the field for an inning who wasn't in the stats for that inning. It was 100% my mistake and we just had to go with it. The alternative was keeping a kid on the bench instead of getting playing time.

The best thing a player can do is play well because stats don't guarantee anything. I know that if I like a player, I will talk to the coach, I will talk to Manfredo or Campo and things will progress from there in terms of contacting college coaches about a player or speaking with the player and their family about their situation in greater detail. Yes, the stats are public. They are working hard to get it right. Imagine if all high school stats were public like this? ADs would be getting emails about fielding %'s because college coach X won't be impressed because a putout was given to the wrong guy.

If you are a pitcher, throw strikes, have some velocity, have good off speed, work quick, mix things, and throw strikes! If you are a hitter, be a tough out, barrel up, get into counts where you can drive the ball and get ready to hit every pitch. If you are a catcher, show off your arm between innings (I have a stopwatch and get every pop time of every game I'm in.) Keep the ball in front and tell your pitchers to give you a chance (because the guys who are 1.7-1.8 to the plate are not giving you a chance.) Defenders, make routine plays look routine, have a strong arm, have proper actions, be quick, communicate, backup bases, show me anticipation, etc. If you impress me, I'll speak up and do what I can.
