Quick rant here....
As a coach in the league, all parents should know that we make it hard for the scorekeepers. We are trying to get players on the field so they can be seen and that format isn't as standard as the software wants it to be. The pitching aspect of the lineups makes things different than normal games because we have 3 or 4 pitchers we need to get in and spread the innings out. In a "normal" league I'd ideally throw a starter out there for 5-6 innings and go from there, but I'm going 3-2-2-2 with guys who are also playing other positions, mixing DHs, rotating positions. There is a lot of play in the roster. A lot of changes between innings are position changes and the software spits back error messages. I know the first week I had a player on the field for an inning who wasn't in the stats for that inning. It was 100% my mistake and we just had to go with it. The alternative was keeping a kid on the bench instead of getting playing time.
The best thing a player can do is play well because stats don't guarantee anything. I know that if I like a player, I will talk to the coach, I will talk to Manfredo or Campo and things will progress from there in terms of contacting college coaches about a player or speaking with the player and their family about their situation in greater detail. Yes, the stats are public. They are working hard to get it right. Imagine if all high school stats were public like this? ADs would be getting emails about fielding %'s because college coach X won't be impressed because a putout was given to the wrong guy.
If you are a pitcher, throw strikes, have some velocity, have good off speed, work quick, mix things, and throw strikes! If you are a hitter, be a tough out, barrel up, get into counts where you can drive the ball and get ready to hit every pitch. If you are a catcher, show off your arm between innings (I have a stopwatch and get every pop time of every game I'm in.) Keep the ball in front and tell your pitchers to give you a chance (because the guys who are 1.7-1.8 to the plate are not giving you a chance.) Defenders, make routine plays look routine, have a strong arm, have proper actions, be quick, communicate, backup bases, show me anticipation, etc. If you impress me, I'll speak up and do what I can.
