Wow, we're about to enter the next era of recruiting.
Interesting idea. Of course it remains to be seen if coaches will actually be watching the showcase (some of them do not focus on watching players when they are there in person) and how effective the streaming is to be able to see a players skills. But it goes to show how foolish the NCAA ban is on prohibiting the D1s from working these showcases when options like this arise to get around the rule.
The feedback from the coaches has been incredible. I trust them when they say they will watch.
I can't help but believe that the Colleges are not thrilled by this new extended Quiet Period. I gotta hand it to Coach Younce & Coastal VA BB for coming up with this innovative idea.
I really hope it works. Once again, the wonders of technology can help overcome a lot of stupid rules like this NCAA one. They had to come up with a no texting rule. Can't wait to see the "no streaming" rule!
I hope this starts a trend going forward. Will NCAA let this be duplicated next year during this period?
Who is really ready to showcase in January? Not good for kids, just a money grab. IMO
It's not a money grab by any means. We charge $190. We are bringing in experts to talk about arm care. We are also providing a Play In School videos for each player, which is $100-150 per player.
As for the timing, kids should be ready as this is when schools in this area are starting. After consulting with many coaches and arm care specialists, this timing is fine.
You can accuse me of a few things but a money grab isn't one of them.
Let me apologize and correct myself. For position players this is probably ok. For pitchers it's not. Most kids are shut down until January or should be. Putting them on the gun at a showcase in January is not a good idea. Too early. They have a long spring and summer ahead and should not be pressing this early. Again I apologize for over generalizing and repeat as a pitching coach this is my opinion
Thanks for your reply. I've spoken with several highly regarded pitching guys who say the timing is ok.
I agree the time is not ideal but I do not believe it is overly harmful. Their only other option is to be seen in June by the coaches.
If a player is not prepared or thinks their participation is a huge risk, I would encourage them to not participate.
