Do you guys think its worth it for a 2017 LHP throwing 85 to go to paid showcases either for PG or Headfirst etc between the sophomore and junior year or should we wait until the summer between junior and senior year? We think my son will touch 87/88 by the summer before his senior year. What usually happens at these big invite tournaments. Do colleges want you to then visit for more of a private workout or do they offer at the showcases? Thanks guys.

There was a thread a couple months ago that asked about the average age and velocity when pitchers make verbal commitments. I believe the time was the start of junior year and the velo was mid-80's. A little sooner than position players. Based on this, I would say go! While it is always possible, an offer at a showcase is rare. More likely, if he is seen and does well, your son will get on coaches' lists and may be contacted for his schedule or an unofficial campus visit. Good luck and enjoy the ride!
I was always told to go when you are on top your game.... if he is then go. I have a 2018 topping 87.... projection is good... we will wait until the summer after soph season
YES, time to go!

Go this summer for sure, so long as you can afford it. Assuming he has an athletic frame, knows how to pitch and has decent to good secondard stuff, any rising junior LHP who is mid to upper 80s will get a lot of attention, especially at HeadFirst, but also by PG. Get him out there. Quick comparison: my 2016 (big frame) RHP son was 84-88 last Fall and got multiple offers (now committed to an Ivy) before Christmas. Before his nice jump in the Fall, he was 82-85 in August at HF and had several Ivy and Patriot schools approach him. Your son is about where my son was at the same time, BUT he is a lefty which is a huge advantage. My son was 6' 3" and 210 at the time, so his frame/projection was a big plus for him. Bottom line: IMO, Go, don't even debate it any longer or ask questions. Time to go.
