Father of 2012 (15yo) and relatively new to much of the recruiting lingo used on this site. I've seen the word "showcase" used to represent tournaments, skills evaluations (w/o games), and camps (independent and run by a school) to the best of my ability to decipher the code. I am also interpreting the discussions to mean that some showcases are by invite only while others are open if your checking account can accomodate the hefty entry fee. Can someone give me a primer on 'showcases' and which showcases are better than others in the Chicago area or even in the midwest? Also, how important are showcases in getting an opportunity to play at the college level (D-I, II, III, or NAIA)?

Thanks in advance for anyone willing to share their wisdom.

Milt,

Have a 2012 myself. This forum has been a wealth of information for our family as we move through the High School year and prepare for hopefully further baseball. 2012 has done two instructional camps so far. Last summer he did a TOP 96 camp and this past winter he did the Cangelosi College Development Camp. Both are instructional with college coaches.

The TOP 96 was in Iowa so that his Grandmother could see him play. Small sample of coaches but got good feedback that yes he could be a propsect. TOP 96 will be in Chicago in August.

The Cangelosi Camp was two weekends in Janaury at the Dome in Lockport. About 40 college coaches per seesion, DI from around the country. Have gotten several inquires from this camp.

Prep Baseball Report (PBR) holds several showcases through out the year. Have not attended but friends have. Not sure of the coverage or what this does for recruiting at this time.

I do not reccomend Top 96 for your son. The price is to expensive, and mostly Grad Assistant working the events who have no authority to sign your son. Alot of down time, and the clinic style workout is all basic drills that you will learn in high school.

Do not get me wrong, there is some really good coaches that do work the events whom will help your kid, but for overall you can find a better showcase for your money, where your son will get the same, if not better exposure.

Spartan,

Any feed back from the Showcase on June 3?

Hey all,
Showcase went really well for Ben(My son)and the schools that he wants to play for came out to see the action. It was run well, the guys running it have some huge experience. One of the guys from getmynameout was the national crosschecker for 30 years. Were going to the next one in early July. Getmynameout is a good value for 99 bucks!
