i am trying to gather up info on the path to proceed for my 2018 to get good exposure to colleges and scouts as he approaches the next two years. Is the best path showcases or tournaments or camps or summer teams? Does it matter that his summer team is not hitting big tournaments across the country? most of their tournaments seem to be local. Should i be signing him up for individual showcases? Pitching coach says he is throwing low 80s and has a lot of movement on his pitches. He is  5'10" 145 lb and has not turned 15 yet - turns 15 end of this month.

My remarks are generalized to rising HS sophs as I don't know your 2018's abilities beyond what you've posted...

We found that following the recruiting timeline here on HSBaseballWeb was very helpful to my boys.  Getting bigger, faster, stronger.  Developing / refining baseball skills.  Perhaps getting a single showcase or a camp experience to get a feel for the showcasing process and see a college campus.

My sons did not play on any national class travel team at this age which sounds similar to your expectations of your son's team.  That didn't hurt them at all.

You mention 145 lbs. and pitching.  So getting bigger / stronger and becoming a better pitcher might be a couple goals for this Summer.  My boys did the Texas Baseball Ranch for throwing / pitching development.  They did a lot of core work at home and built more lean muscle mass.  And they both did a low cost camp / showcase to get a feel for the process.

Good luck!

I'm in "the camp" for going to a showcase as well. Go to an event (such as PG) showcase where he will receive measurables (60 time, radar in pitching, bat speed if he is not a PO). If he is duals as a position player, some showcases will measure arm strength across the diamond or from the outfield as well.

If one of his "target" schools are at the event, it's a good time to say hello (put a face to a name of a coach), but given his graduation year, little else can be said. If you are nearby a college that will have a consortium of schools there for an event, it can serve the same purpose and allow you to save $$ for when it matters more. The best thing to expect to receive from the showcase is the experience in how they are run, and the observation of how your son stacks up with the other players. Then the next step is to set up a plan on how to improve (strength, body, control, mechanics, etc).. Good luck!
