Welcome to HSBW! You will find that this site provides an enormous amount of extremely helpful information.

FWIW, I think a summer team is very important. Once he hooks up with a summer team, he should send email of interest with a schedule to schools he is interested in. Perhaps even some phone calls.

On top of that, if my son was in your son's situation, we would also target a few showcases where schools of interest will be. Have your son let them know ahead of time that he is coming, anxious to meet the coach, etc.

It is certainly not too late. My son's summer organization's 18u team had 19 players commit in the summer after graduation. So, if your son is aggressive, and has the talent, he could sign somewhere.

Best of luck to him and keep us updated.
What level do you believe your son can play? Is he already committed to a college based on acceptance and a downpayment? Could he play there.

It's getting late to throw it against the wall to see what sticks. I would go to a very focused approach. Make contact with coaches. Find out if there are still roster spots available. Ask how and where to get in front of them.

Another approach would be to play JuCo for a year or two.
Flacracker, not sure where you are located but in the Mid-Atlantic region there are a few organizations that have showcase summer teams with staff members who know the coaches at most of the colleges in the region and beyond. What have you done in summers past? What coaches and contacts have you made that could help solicit interest from college coaches. I would do at least one Perfect Game or Baseball Factory event. I know of players who have gotten "picked up" sight unseen based on their results.
