Stone Bridge wins pitchers' duel; Shugars throws two hitter as Bulldogs beat Mt. Vernon 2-0.

Senior hurler Ryan Shugars continues to pile up the quality starts for the Stone Bridge Bulldogs. Shugars threw a complete game 2-hit shutout in the South Lakes/Woodson Spring Break tournament against Mt. Vernon today at Woodson HS. Shugs, as his teammates call him, had his slider working again today, striking out 9 hitters. When he wasn't "K" ing Mt. Vernon, Shugars was making them pound the ball into the ground, inducing 8 ground ball outs.

Mt. Vernon pitcher D.J. Judkins matched Shugars pitch for pitch through 5 innings of work, striking out 10 Bulldog batters. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, when Sophomore OF Jeron Gouveia reached on a 2 base error. Gouveia moved to third on a wild pitch and eventually scored on a second wild pitch. Stone Bridge (6-4, 3-3) got an all important insurance run in the 6th on an RBI single by David Ball, scoring Tony Mazur. Ball went 2 for 2, with Mazur (double), sophomore Mike Stancik and Niko Kolocuris each picking up hits.

The Bulldogs wrap up the Spring Break tournament on Wednesday, April 12 as they will face the JEB Stuart Raiders at 10AM. The game will be played at Woodson HS.
