Kudos for tpm in getting to the bottom of the PPA issue. Sorry all for jumping the gun and not doing my research.

However, I still believe it is irresponsible for any poster to make a claim like "no one ever got suspended because they had a cold and took cold medicine or used their inhaler". I'm not picking-on, ripping, or baiting any member in particular. It is an example, and unless statements like these can be backed-up by an official source, I do not think anyone on this site, or any other site is qualified to make them. This site is good about not diagnosing injuries, the same should be said about statements made about banned substances. I say this because I've read numerous articles like this 2008-09 drug policy posted by the Augusta State College Sports Medicine Department.

quote:
Some dietary supplements and "over-the-counter" (otc) medications such as cold medications, may contain substances banned by the NCAA which would be detected by screening procedures. If a banned substance is detected, even though it was ingested with a legal supplement or medication, the student-athlete will be in violation of the drug screening policy. In order to help avoid these types of situations, the NCAA has contracted the Resource Exchange Center, or REC to provide student-athletes and coaches with accurate information regarding dietary supplements and "over-the-counter" (otc) medications. The REC can be contacted toll free by phone at 877-202-0769 or on-line at www.drugfreesport.com/rec

Why would the NCAA contract with an organization if there was not past, or potential problems with "over-the-counter" (otc) medications? I tried to get into the REC page but you need a password , the phone # is legit.

IMHO, be safe, don't rely on anyone from this or any other site to give "armchair QB" opinions on any issue that can have negative life changing affects on our kids. Everyone is here to help.........to a degree.

This is a public service announcement and the opinions and views expressed are my own and not necessarily those of this web site.

btw- It doesn't happen often and the first for me to see "live", tpm hit a "full house" of posts, 11111. Busy gal, nice hand...5 aces Wink

From experience:

The call at 2 in the morning (EST), I was in NY and he in New Mexico, from the team telling me he had slipped in the shower and had a mild concussion but was fine and ready to go---just a good old fashioned bump on the head--no mention of anything other than he was fine and they expected him to be on the field the next afternoon

Question:

How does a thread regarding sickness turn into discussion regarding over the counter supplements etc ?
Well, one poster mentioned that when his kid was sick he wouldnt take anything becasue he was afraid of something being illegal. So began the over the counter discussion.
Threads do that, they go in many directions. I persoanlly think the discussion covered some good things as far as new parents being aware of these types of things.

Isn't there a relationship between sick kids - sick kids getting better - the course they take to get better - and the potential problems they may run into during that "medicated" time? IMO the thread has evolved from an earache to the potential ramifications of medications to cure that earache. A different direction...sure, but still "food for thought".

I just wanted to post this momentous occasion----

This is awesome. There has been lots and lots of very valuable information imparted within these 11111 posts! Thanks!
Somehow through osmosis younggun has gotten sick! I thank Krak for this! Who else can I blame for starting this thread! lol.

Coach allowed him to come home today to rest up but told him to be ready to toss 2 innings tomorrow. The season starts 2 weeks from Saturday and I'd rather him be sick now than then!
A "TR-to-20" countdown needs to start as TR approaches 20,000. I know he doesn't care, but it is kind of fun to watch these things unfold.

How long does it take an ear to 'unplug' after an ear infection? Son says the pain is completely gone, but the ear is still plugged up. He's been on amoxicillin since Monday evening, so I thought it would have cleared by now - but it was all mixed in with a trans-Pacific flight and that cabin pressure stuff can also cause some ear problems for awhile.

You also have some great posts.Rz1, I think that comment below might apply to the particular thing you said about the number of posts by this member.

I know another player personally who does Bikram and he says it is so physically and mentally cleansing. You leave the session fresh, inside and out.
