Since I'm going through the recruiting process for the first time I'm unsure of how eveything works and I have run across my first unknown. My son, an "07, sent out 12 early contact letters the last week of December and started getting responses within 3 days. One was from a school that had seen him play 4 times during the showcase season. The coach at that school requested a copy of his transcripts. He waited until last week when his semester ended so he could get the most up to date copy, and forwarded it to the coach. This week he got a letter from the school offering what they called a Head Start Application. It offers no application fee and priority financial aid consideration. It also gave him a username and password to do so online if he chooses. I'm thinking if it's a free app. it's a win-win situation as it could pre-qualify him so if the caoch is interested everything would be on go if he chooses to go after my son. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Is this a normal process? By applying does it commit him to anything? And solely for my mind, does this sound promising, or is it all just standard prcedure with no indication of the coaches interest. I'm sure thewre will be more questions and the process rolls along. Thanks for the responses past and present.(and hopefully future)

That is exactly what we went through.
We applied to a few schools with fees waived and got accepted and given a student number. All subject to official transcript and clearing house certification.
The scholarships were then laid out after acceptance to each school officially.
When we accepted the school we were most interested in ,I called the other coaches and told them of our decision.
