Sitting out a year

I was listening to radio talk show today, they were interviewing the quarterback for Wisconsin Badgers, Russell Wilson. He transfered over the summer from NC State to Wisconsin. He played three years at NC State, football and baseball. Drafted 2010 by Rockies. Coach at NC State told him no baseball senior year, he left. How is it that he didn't have to sit out a year? He is currently the starting QB for the Badgers and going to play baseball there in the spring? I am confused? Did I miss something here?

You must have missed something, he cannot play baseball he played for the rockies, but he can play football this fall with his one year of football eligibility remaining.
I may be wrong, but that is my understainding. He did not have to sit out a year.

Being a State grad I can answer for the most part. Wilson graduated college in 3 years, he got drafted and spent time in Single A which eliminates him from playing college baseball again. However he can transfer schools without penalty as long as he is in graduate school. It is a one year exception that the NCAA has in place for graduate students. The only reason State's coach did not have him back is because Wilson couldnt decide if he wanted to stick with MLB or not.

He can't play baseball at Wisconsin because they cancelled their baseball program about 12 years ago. Also as was eariler stated he played for Colorado.
