So we finally went to Cincinnati for a tournament this weekend. For years I've heard that Cincinnati is famous for its chili...3-way, 4-way, 5-way.

So we finally hit the Skyline Chili Friday night.

Um, gross.

Seriously, you like this? The chili was sweet. Chili isn't supposed to be sweet, is it?

Now to be fair, we really liked the city and the surrounding area. Had a great time at a Reds' game.

But the chili? Nope.

With such a sour report of the chili being too sweet I'm glad you left me back in Chicago papi.

You must've been happy I was out of your hair for a whole weekend.

As you were running around the hills of Cincinnati, holding your nose while shoveling that sickeningly sweet chili in, I was harmlessly tucked away in suburban Chicago...

Or was I?

I like the Cincinnati style chili. When I make it at home I use Lamb. It can be an acquired taste. The recipe has some roots in Greek Cuisine.

We read that on the menu, about the Greek origin of the restaurant. Didn't know spaghetti and/or chili were Greek.

I'm looking forward to making this dish with my own chili recipe. I think the idea is good, just have to get rid of the sweet flavor.

And, Gotwood, thanks for the gift. Saturday, I'll go find a wedding and tie those cans to the back of their car. At least then it'll go to a good cause.

Car? Are you kidding? You're way out in farm country papi. Where the soybeans tickle your knees in the front yard and the corn, at harvest, clogs the gutters in the back!

Those (empty?)cans of yours are best tied off on the plow hitch. Oh...don't bother swinging by the ol' McDonald place. Roy and Bess tied the knot last weekend...

Let us know who the lucky couple are who get your sweet Skyline® chili treatment.

Wink

Skiline and Goldstar both use Cinnamon in there recipe. That is probably were you get the sweet taste. Some do not like the texture either. Instead of browning the beef and then adding it to the sauce. The raw beef is added early and is more boiled than browned.

Blasphemy I say...blasphemy! Smile

I grew up on Skyline Chili and it's one of the things I miss the most since moving away from the Cincinnati area 25 years ago. I would probably be shocked if I totaled up the amount of money we spent having Skyline shipped to us over the years.

Oh well, I'm not a big fan of Chicago style hot dogs so I guess we're even biggerpapi Wink
