It appears there is a major push going on in the MLB upper ranks to rid the use of smokeless tobacco. It has already been banned in college and minor leagues (tongue in cheek).

I'm split down the middle on this one. I used these products when I was a young man playing ball. Chewing it while playing was like NASCAR and beer, it was just the thing to do. It was part of the game IMO.

My son does now and I have no problem with it (except I'm the one paying for it!), but I kinda do wish he'd quit (which he may where he is now this year). But for his health, I do more than anything.

I just wonder how they are going to pass something like this in MLB and police it? Some guy is going to be on the ballfield with a ticket book in hand writing tickets for chewing? lol.

Some organizations on the ML level do not allow it's use during games, it's gum or seeds only.

I actually applaud the effort, my son gave it up a few years ago and he said it didn't really realize how nasty it really was until he was done. Your son is young enough to break the habit early.
I applaud the effort as well but it is not as easy to get rid of as you would thing. We are dealing with a union and that is why MLB was able to ban it at the minor league level as well. I had a buddy that was playing in the minor's when they banned it. Although the minor league guys could not dip when MLB guys came down for rehad they could and there was nothing that could be done about it. Think about the amount of players that use chew, do you think they are going to vote to ban it?

And a cessation program would be a great plan. It was quite simply one of the hardest things I ever tried to do. Quitting that is.

I know people who have quit using the nicotine patch.
