If the hitter is hitting the ball hard , line drives , hard grounders right at someone that isnt a slump. might be in the hitters mind.
my son always evaluates his at bats as to how he approached the ab, what kind of pitches he is seeing, how he drives the ball. I think 0-30 would constitute that somethings not right. But 0-3,0-6 thats going to happen to good hitters all the time.
Hitting of course takes skill, but lets say for a better than avg. hs hitter, in a fiarly strong league should be hitting .300 or better.Thats my opinion.
In my opiion, slump it is the way baseball players name a period of "at bats" where the batting average it dramatically drops without a visible cause. Hit the ball hard but always in front of the fielder (kind of back luck). If the cause of the failure it is a bad habit or defective swing, it is not slump not more.
The slump is not motive of preocupation because is nothing you can do except to have pacience and wait. Paradogically, a couple of bloopers may take a hitter out of the slump. When the failure cause is mechanical, the player have to be sat down a couple of games and he has to work hard at batting practice to solve the problem.
A slump is when the hitter is not hitting the pitches he usually hits. Hitting it hard and getting out is not a slump. That is simply baseball. A slump is a snow ball effect. It starts out with hitting the ball at fielders and getting out. It starts when you get a few grooved pitches you usually square up and you dont. Then the mental side begins to creep in. Now you have a kid that has lost some confidence and you have a kid that begins to press which causes some mechanical flaws in their swing. Now you get a pitch you know you should hammer and you pull off of it or miss it.

In hs a two week slump is like a 3 month slump in the ml's. Players have to stop thinking so much and relax. Just have the idea that you are going to have a quality ab. Dont try to do too much. Just try and hit the ball hard somewhere and dont worry about where it goes. As the confidence returns and the pressing stops the slumps goes away.

One thing to remember is if your really going good dont get too high because you can go south just as quickly. And if your not going good dont press. Because your only as good as your next swing. Relax , have fun , and dont press.
