My 2024 was at a camp last summer at Pirate City the same time that the MiLB Rookie short season was going on ... my son has a couple Instagram followers from that experience. I thought it to be initially strange, then realized I am old and not born into the smartphone age.  I see it as normal for this generation.  I do occasionally glance (spy) on my kid's Instagram activity to make sure it doesn't go off in an inappropriate direction.

A recruit participating on social media shouldn’t post anything about his social life, religion or politics. Stick to sports without any taunting directed towards rivals.

Back in high school my son posted a taunt directed at the starting pitcher of the rival high school. He thought it was funny and told me. I told him to take it down. People outside your little world don’t know you’ve been close friends since LL.

Absolutely agree.

He manages his social platform knowing full well of the repercussions that come from making a decision that will be seen forever.

He does post some biblical or faith strengthening verses on his twitter from time to time, which I have no issue with my son expressing his faith.

He also knows that anything said about another team would instantly be bulletin board material.....that just the way it works nowadays. so he doesn't.

My question was why would players follow and as soon as the 1st responses came through, the bulb went off. Thanks, guys. It definitely helps to have a forum.

Sounds like he may be on the coach's watch list and the coach has asked a few players to follow your son's social media to see if there are any red flags.

Completely disagree. Means absolutely nothing.

That could be as my guess was just that, a guess.  The kid filled out the questionnaire online and signed up for a camp to a school that is presumably several states away since the OP is in Alaska.  Do college players normally have access to the questionnaires or the camp list?  Did they decide to just follow a HS kid from Alaska on a whim?  It just seems more likely to me that the coach gave out the kids info to his players.  But again, I have no specific knowledge but it sounds like you do from your response.

I really have no clue and it seemed weird and out of the blue, so that why I asked.

It is Alaska. I'm not as savvy as a typical lower 48 baseball parent.

I asked the HC at our HS. He said they probably gave them the info so they could check and see because kids act different. makes sense, and from what ya'll are saying means absolutely nothing in the scheme of things.

Thanks again.

Im with you on this 22and25.  This kid is a dude and the coach asked the players to scope out the social media profile.

What makes me say that?  From previous post, The kid is 2021. 165lbs and throws 88fb. Exit velo 92.  And did it at AZ fall classic.

And I bet you are plenty savvy Alaskan.  This has got to be fun for a dad!  Best wishes and good luck to your son.

I will agree with you guys.  I know coaches ask their players what about this player or that player.  Anybody know them?  And they will ask their players to check their profiles to see what shows up.  College guys and gals can read into the social media a lot better than coaches can about what they see and hear.  I know one coach had a player check out a social media account and the player came back and showed them some things in pictures that the coach never had seen.  Told a lot about the player's lifestyle.  Where they went and who they hung out with.  Coach moved on.

I always tell my players, be careful what you post and who posts stuff about you.  I had a kid last night who said I might be sick on a certain date so I can go to an event and coach not know.  I said what is chances that no one with you posts a picture of you that night on social media in today's world.  So it is not just what you post but what others post.  I confronted one of my kids about something I saw on someone else's post about where they were at and who they were with.
