I guess the question is if they will be willing to accomadate his personal schedule request if he has any.
If so this may open up the "hired gun" scenario at the MLB level. An interesting concept.
If a pitcher like Clemens who is known for his workout ethic both on and off the field says that he is available on "X" day there should be no reason that they would not go with his wishes. It all comes down to the player involved professional makeup. I think Clemens proved last year he could pull that off. He may be an exception to the rule.
Without the wear of everyday travel I would expect a pitcher to maybe stay more mentally fresh for a complete season.
