OA, If anyone gives you a "recommendation" for a team, run like HE(DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS.)

"...more about the baseball than it is about the money" generally means you want a really knowledgeable dad-coach who has a young college kid assisting. There are a few of them out there, but usually they are independents and harder to find. Make sure to check that they are coaching their second baseball-playing son as you can just about bet that they really screwed it up the first time through.

If you say, "No Cobra, you don't understand, I don't mind paying, but I want good instruction/coaching." Then I would say that even in the best "clubs" around, there are coaches that might not be as good as others, and there are only a few clubs that even have teams in the 13U age group. You have to call all of them and see if they are open tryouts (many will be posted in and around this site soon!)

Lastly, and most importantly, let your son play with his friends until he is 14U or 15U. Teams (and players) really start to separate themseleves at that juncture. My youngest is playing 13UAAA (eldest is a HS varsity player.) They have played in four championship games in the last four tournaments, winning three of them. In the last two tourneys they went 0-2 in pool play, were the last seed, and then went to the 'Ship. Basically, all of these teams have similarly skilled players/coaches and anyone can beat anyone.

Now, if he is a Major and you are "all ate up with it," go to every tryout for every Major no matter where they are located, and let the chips fall where they may.
