I know about the steroids and therefore put his accolades in question, however the thing that you cannot take away from Sammy is that he brought it everyday. Sure he wasnt the greatest fileder but he sprinted after everything. He was good for 155 games a season for 10 straight years. He came to play, and play hard--that is more a mental stance than physical.

So while the roids yielded more home runs and a larger cranium through the years, I still applaud that relatively innocent desire that he exuded nearly everyday. He felt blessed to play baseball and it showed.
600 is a tremendous feat. However, I despise the hypocrisy of people such as the boys on Sports Center who suggest that 600 is an automatic bid to the HALL. In fact, Tim K. stated that Sammy will go in after Barry and will be a first ballot. When asked what role steroids play in this decision, he commented, "he has never been proven to have taken steroids." That was the same Tim K that argued that Big Mac will never get into the HALL. When asked about the Congressional Hearings, Tim K responded/suggested that Big Mac pleaded the Fifth Amendment and so, he is guilty. THAT IS NOT WHAT THE FIFTH AMENDMENT IS ABOUT. Tim K conveniently forgot that Sammy "didn't speak English" and so didn't want to testify. The hierocracy is as thick as it can be.

When reading any of my comments please be advised that I'm biased in my opinion because I'm a Cardinals fan and because I know members of Big Mac's family.

It's hard to even write this, but I've got to agree with Soxnole and Beenthere!!!

We're talking about an era where so many players used something. Whether it was uppers, downers, steriods or whatever else, you cannot just write off this period in baseball and not induct those with off the wall career numbers.

I dislike Barry Bonds as much as the next guy, but look at what he's done on the field. Sammy, same thing. His offensive production is ridiculous for how long he's played. McGuires' numbers fall short in comparison to Sosa's, but he did enough for a long enough time to warrant induction.

Because election into the Hall is voted on by the baseball writers all bets are off. For every Tim K. there's a Mariotti. For every Buster Olney there's a Woody Paige. Oh, I think they'll get in eventually but nowhere near first ballot election. JMO.
