Thanks for the link, Chris. There was some good news hidden later in the article:

-- Less than a month after suffering spinal cord damage in a car accident, coach St. Clair Jones has returned to the Kellam dugout. He was there for the Knights’ first scrimmage last week and is leaning on his assistants, including junior varsity coach Ryan Kurpiel and longtime volunteer Eddie Duke. Jones, using a wheelchair, “is involved as much as possible,” said Jim Moxey, Kellam’s athletic director. “He’s out there at practice and actively coaching. He hasn’t thrown batting practice yet, but I think that’s just around the corner.” A variety of fund-raisers have been planned to benefit Jones, and Kempsville is pitching in this Saturday with a ''100-inning intrasquad scrimmage’’ to raise money.

Thanks Chris,

Just a couple of question, What are you feeding them boys over-there at Cox? I coached Zach Bach when he was in T-ball and he only came up to my waist; I seen him at the VA Weslyan showcase and gave myself a slight kink in the neck from looking up to talk to him. I know you have a few more like his size.

Second question, from the Fall games, where did FC find all those lefty's (hitting/pitching). The odds of one team having that many has to be very high.

I see Green Run projected to finish last; I for one do not see them there at the end of the season. They could be the feel good team this year like Bayside was last. From what I seen,it appears the players have bought into the new coaches program and I like what he is doing. Their catcher was the player that stood out to me.

As for Landstown, if you have driven along Princess Anne Rd lately you may have seen some construction going on behind the backstop of the ballfield. The new 'Eagles Nest' concession stand/press-box/players room (three stories) should be near completion by the start of the season. A very welcomed addition when hosting the Beach District Tournament.

I am looking forward to see what the Eagles bring to the field this season. It appears coach Mungin as been re-energized and has taken different approach to the season. Them Team will be lead by Seniors: Cameron Butler (P/C), Raymond Mance (3B/S/P) and lefty Jesse McCartney (P/1B). Cameron and Raymond have played big roles the last couple seasons. Butler should draw some attention, deservingly so.

They are followed by Juniors Kyle Lawhorn (P/2B/SS), CF Mike Fudeniewiecz (stalwart defensive player and dangerous on the base paths)and Utility-player Robert Perkins. Additionally, Sophmore Cameron Day (1B) should provide some offensive punch while Colton Langejans could see considerable amount of mound time. We do have some young arms in our Freshman class and a prospective newcomer of the year candidate in Scottie Hurl(SS/P) (cksp).

They key is like ay other team, minimize your mistakes (mental/physical) staying away from those big innings; they killed us the most last year.

Defense should be improved; which would help us alot while offensively we should be able to put a few bats on the ball.

Why I like the Beach District this year is that, like you, I do not for see a clear cut front-runner, Bayside like Ocean Lakes last year is steep in senior depth, but the key is that I believe we have some of the top quality coaches in all of High School baseball that even without the top-notch studs, they can field a competitive teams.

We're thinking about you Coach St Claire.

You could tell by looking at his feet (not to mention his Mom and Dad) that ZB was going to be big. We have a couple of other "big'uns", but nothing major. There may be something in the water though because my own son has grown from 5'3" following his freshman year to 5'11" as a junior (a welcomed and long overdue growth spurt).

Don't really know much about FC lefties except Justin Smith who was at Cox as a freshman, but somehow ended up over at FC.

Glad to hear about the upgrade in facilities at Landstown. I heard Kellam has built a pressbox as well and Cox is in the process of completing a pretty nice structure in its own right.

Scottie Hurl sounds like he may have been the 6th grader that pitched against GN in the washed out regular season game prior to the championship meeting two years ago? I was impressed with him.

No predictions from the Cox side yet, but based on their performance in the scrimmage against WB last week, I'm hoping for a good year.

You all were only at the foundation stage the last time we were over your way.

Son says it's spelled Hurrell. Additionally, he's a fine looking hitter with a little pop in his bat.

Chris- I think that he'll be fine. As long as he gives it time to mend back and dosent rush back. He's playing with the Braves in the summer anyway so he'll be fine. He needs to keep in mind that he has 3 more years no need to rush and make it more than it is. Patrick will be controlling the dish this year as long as they dont need him anywhere else.

Good luck this year

Yes, this is true. I spoke with his father the other night at a parents meeting and he said it happen a couple months ago at a track meet. From what I hear, all you can do is re-hab; which he has been doing and it takes awhile to fully heal. His return for the season at anytime is questionable.

From what I seen over the summer/fall, he would of been penciled into the line-up and at the top of the batting order.

With Patrick's experience, this move should really help your pitching staff.

According to the schedule, we won't see you guys (Kellam) until the 22nd of April.

Best of luck, looking forward to seeing you all as always.

PS We have a scrimmage with Greenbriar Christian Academy on Tuesday the 11th; get a chance to see how Josh is doing.

Yes i agree with you on that the Beach is Wide open also. Landstown seems very dangerous to me with them working very hard and returning a lot of guys. And then their is of course the power houses who will sure to be good. Green Run will be very improved from years past in being lead by 6 seniors but also having very young pitchers with Hunter Shawn and Nick MacLivane. Im looking forward to see how the season plays out.
Lawman,
FC does have alot of lefthanded hitters and majority are 10th and 11th graders.Jake,Buddy Lawson,Jordan Egan,Steve Hesse,Cam Stephenson
are all experienced players from the fall.Should be for a good mix!Not sure about Max Fushetti...

Landstown will be thrown into the fire early starting with FC, Salem and Cox followed after the spring break Tournament which we are hosting this year (Mills Godwin is scheduled to play in this Tournament) we comeback to face Bayside.
... at the end of the season our regular season schedule concludes with Bayside, Cox, Salem and First Colonial respectively. Our game with PA shows up in the middle of the season.

Like all teams, we have to take each game seperately one at time; one out and one inning at a time.

Should be fun to see how it plays out.

Is Trevor Henson playing this year? Should be a strong arm coming out of the bullpen.

Tom,

I think they faired well up at the USSA 16U Tournament in Richmond this past summer; with all things considered(meaning playing without a key player in Patrick)

Yes, we should have plenty in pitching dept. keeping arms fresh. He also hits good too! Will be 3rd base also.
We played Granby last weekend and had 3 homers . I think team felt good about how they played as a whole.
