Western Branch 17, Chaminade Madonna 7.

WB scored early and often with an 8-run second inning highlighted by Alex Hunt’s first Varsity home run, a grand slam. WB players with multiple hits were Garrett Brooks, Kyle McPherson and Brandon Doggett with 2 each and Nick Thompson with 4. Every batter for WB had at least 1 RBI. Shane Johnsonbaugh pitched the first 2 innings for WB and Tommy Bradshaw pitched innings 3-6, facing 14 batters and allowing 1 earned run to pick up the win. Richard Eisenhower pitched the final inning, allowing no runs while striking out 2 batters. Tomorrow WB will play their “benefit game” against American Heritage.

Western Branch 7, American Heritage 9. Western Branch faced a strong hitting American Heritage team in their VHSL benefit game. WB highlight: Bobby Barefoot hit a grand slam.

Western Branch 3, North Broward 4. What a great game! Ended with North Broward hitting a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 7th. Ryan Bennett pitched a great game, going the distance for WB. He and WB’s turning 3 double plays kept Western Branch in the game, a game where WB batters had only 5 hits and were struck out 13 times. (Both NB’s starter and closer were throwing 90+.) Going into the top of the 5th, it was 1-0 North Broward. With Garrett Brooks on third, the NB catcher fired a bullet to third, actually left field, allowing Brooks to score and tie the game. WB took the lead in the top of the 6th. Bobby Barefoot led off with a BB, advanced to second on a sac bunt, to third on CJ McAndrews’ single and scored on a WP. McAndrews scored on Brooks’ single. NB led off the bottom of the 6th with a solo homerun. Then, with 2 outs, the 9th batter reached on a bunt single and scored when the lead-off hitter doubled to tie the game.
