Western Branch 4, Keoughtan 3 in 8 innings.  WB scored the first run of the game (and its first hit) in the 5th.  Keoughtan answered with 1 run in the top of the 6th.  Score remained tied 1-1 at the end of regulation.  Keoughtan scored 2 runs in the top of the 8th.  WB answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th   Roth had the game winning RBI with a sac fly.

3D....I would disagree.   I was suspect of WB pitching from the get go, but was blasted for not trusting Coach Wrights decision making.   Clearly he wants to get certain arms innings prior to playoffs.....when it matters most.  Can't rely on 2 guys all season.  Wins now are nice, but the playing time down the road should pay off.   A kid that had started all season didn't start today in place for a sophomore just called up.  Why?   Playoff prep.  Experience.   And that kid is a Senior who was benched.

Your hashtags in all your posts lead me to believe you are a player on WB.   Do you disagree with the coaches moves tonight?

NR beats Heritage.

Regarding coaching moves.  It has been my experience that the vast majority of coaches do what they think is the best for their team.  Sometimes players earn opportunities.  It is then up to the player to capitalize on it!

Regarding whether or not the players are familiar with these types of forums...you better believe it!  Don't forget, it was your son or daughter who taught you how to use your brand new tech device.

Player yes 757 . However its been a few years. But these forums are no secret to current players. I never second guess coaches decisions having been there many times myself in the past and will continue in the future but everyone still has there opinion.I agree with the moves and your point about getting the experience. Seems that  the moves are an inning or two too late for me.But I would say Coach Wright and the rest of the coaches in this area should be commended for the work and dedication the put out there for these atheletes. They do a great job.

Uhhh...high school players DEFINITELY know about his forum and read it regularly.  I often get texts from kids about comments made on this board.

In case anyone hasn't noticed WB has scored 4 or fewer runs in regulation in 6 of the last 10 games and only more than 10 once.  On the flip side of that they have held the opposition to 3 or fewer 7 times with 5 shutouts.

Pitching and defense is not the issue there IMO but all of a sudden it is the scoring that is getting to be inconsistent.  Trip to FL. in there but the VA teams have started to figure a way to keep them in the yard.

Kids know about this site. I bet some of them post remarks....

Oscar Smith came out and posted their 2 runs in the top of the first on an error (SS), a walk, and 2 hits.  In bottom 3rd, after 2 quick outs Woodside got a single from Adamson and an RBI double by Rouleau to make it 2-1.  In top 4 Smith loaded the bases with 2-outs and Packert hit a line shot that 3B Adamson went up and grabbed, saving at least 2 runs.  Then in bottom of 4, Woodside went single (Henley) - double (Dengan) to start inning, then Smith's Packert struck out the next batter, hit the next batter (to load the bases), and stuck out the 9-batter for 2nd out.  Woodside's leadoff batter Welcher, who threw 120+ pitches in the complete game win on the mound, then popped a ball up to shallow right that landed on the RF line and scored all 3 on base (RF overran it when he got to it - with field soft - then would have had last runner out at home on his throw but the catcher was up in front of plate too far and runner slid in behind him) to make it 4-2.

Woodside scored all 4 runs with 2 outs.  Oscar Smith left a total of 5 men on base in the 3rd & 4th innings, then did not have a batter reach in 5th, 6th, 7th.

Grassfield hosts Woodside at 2:00pm tomorrow.

Oscar Smith hosts Bethel at 4:00pm tomorrow.

If I'm Woodside, I throw Moyer at GF.

If I don't, I'm inviting Grassfield to take one from me, and then I'm throwing the same guy that WB just saw less then 2 weeks ago.  If WB sees Moyer on Tuesday, I expect it to be a different result.  Good teams have a way of making adjustments.

I still like Grassfield's chances today, regardless of who Woodside throws out there.

P.S. Roth had game tying 2_ run double and Kyle Butler had sac fly to win it.

Thanks for the correction on Roth and Butler.  Lost track of the batter.  I almost always keep a scorebook and didn't that night.

In regards to a few programs looking better now than they did in the first month...I maintain that it's a lot easier to get wins when 5 of the top 6 teams in Hampton Roads get to play someone else, rather than beating up on each other.

Grassfield being one of those five is 0-4 against the top four.  They are 10-1 against everyone else they've played, including very solid wins against Wando and Ashley Ridge down in SC.

I also agree regarding Oscar Smith.  They are 0-5 against the aforementioned.  Two more losses by 3 runs against FC and Woodside.  I understand they controlled the FC game, but gave it away late.  The win against Kecoughtan was telling to me.

To that point, Kecoughtan was cruising to a 9-3 start, only to go 0-3 against the SED the first time through.

There is no doubt that they are a fine program.

However, I don't think that too many people would've guessed that they would be undefeated at this point.

Also, as you know, what one did last year is not a great predictor of future results.  Classes do graduate.  They did return some players, but a few of those actually transferred out to other programs in the fall.  Apparently on the other side of the water, they're a bit more liberal about that kind of thing.  After seeing them in March, there is no way I would have guessed that they would be undefeated at this point.

It is obvious that they are a much better team in May than they were then.
