Biggest Game this week looks to be Grassfield @ Great Bridge. The winner there is in a good early season spot with each having a win over Indian River already in thier pocket and a 3-0 start.

IR could steady itself if they win at Hickory and Western Branch has a full week. Nansmond River might have the toughest week with WB and IR sandwiched around Oscar Smith. Pitching depth sure to be tested there.

After this week is finished (NO RAIN PLEASE!) things should start to take shape. After Friday it's only 10 days into the season but almost 25% of the district games will be played.
WB 10 NR 0

WB outhit NR 13 to 3 with Bobby Barefoot leading the way, going 4 for 4 (3S, 1DB). Alex Hunt (FR) recorded his first hit, a double, as a Varsity player. Shane Johnsonbaugh picked up his first win of the season and Kenny Cassidy closed for the save.

NR turned a nice 5-4-3 DP in the bottom of the 5th.

Josh Howard, Kyle Moore and Kevin Miller had hits for NR.
Hickory 1 Indian River O.

Great job...TJ Lighton winning pitcher for Hickory. Went the distance for the Hawks against Dean Ali. Lead off Triple by Todd Freeman (LF) in the bottom of the seventh and a single by Matt Campbell (SS) for the winning RBI. Key defensive plays made the difference for the Hawks. A grat game for both teams and the for the fans watching.
Western Branch 14 Deep Creek 5

Kenny Cassidy was the star of the game. He caught 5 innings, pitched the final 2 innings without allowing a run, and went 3 for 3 at the plate with 4 rbis. WB had 12 hits. In addition to Cassidy, Alex Hunt, Shane Johnsonbaugh and Nick Thompson had multiple hits. Garrett Brooks, Brandon Doggett and Bobby Barefoot also had hits. Nick Thompson picked up his second win of the season.

Five different Deep Creek players had hits.

Cody pitched another great game. GF's defense let down the pitchers at times and allow 3 unearned runs. A point about you never know who is watching: I have been told a seattle scout was there to watch stokes, but was impressed with Cody (who i am told was throwing 89).
TEAM------R H E
Nans. River 6 8 3
Oscar Smith 1 4 4

WP: O'Hara
LP: Foreman

Brandon Lowe was 2-for-2, with 2 BB, 2 R, RBI, SB (The kid - c/o '12 - looks smooth at the dish) for NR. Josh Howard and Travis Johnson had 2 hits each as well. After pitching the 1st four innings, O'Hara went to CF where he made a very nice catch on a dead sprint 5-10 feet from the fence in right-center.

Quiet bats & four unearned runs hurt Smith. Two freshmen, Michael Foreman & Conner Smith, pitched well combining for 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, & 6 Ks.

Two sources (always good to have multiple sources!) (1) Scorekeeper for King's Fork and (2) article in the newspaper - Suffolk News-Herald.

Some info on the game - Travis Cherry pitched the first half of the game for KF and Nick Bowman the second half. Bowman struck out 6 in the final three innings. David Waterfield, the starting pitcher for LL, threw approximately 126 pitches. KF jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Sounds like the whole line-up was hitting the first inning with two batted balls hopping over the fence.
